I added database for those definitions. It is interesting to note
that there may have been typos in either the RMC Definition file or
in the web page. Sony DVD is defined as 024 on the web page, but 023
in the PRC. And Denon has a 007 on the web page, but a 017 in the
PRC definition. I have put all into the databases, as it doesn't
hurt to have additional ones to try.
Please note that I did NOT do the AMPs. I was not able to line them
up with what was listed in the web page.
Now, I need EVERYBODY to do this. Go into your ORIGINAL PRCs (the
ones available on the CD, not from this group). Compare your
internal/external version numbers with these:
TVDef: 1.00.011026.1/1.0
VCRDef: 1.00.011026.1/1.0
DVDDef: 1.00.011026.1/1.0
AMPDef: 1.00.011031.1/1.0
These are the files that were shipped with the T615C. Other devices
may have different files. If you have something OTHER than those
numbers listed, please let me know.
Also, I'm going to upload the Sony TV definition file that Sony put
on one of their support sites. I remember seeing that the definition
is for Australian Sony TVs. The version is:
TVDef: 1.01.020613.1/1.01
Jason
Could someone with a Replay TV see if any of the buttons for the Clie
RMC's definition of the Samsung DVD player control the box? Also try
the Thompson definition.
Thanks,
Jason
Ok, this may help some people out.
I discovered about a week ago that the Sony VL-700 remote happens to
use the exact same command table names that they shipped with the RMC
definition files.
http://www.remotecentral.com/vl700/codes1.htm
I have set up a database in the database section (and will set up
more). I have included all of those listed in the vl700 page for TV
Makers, and indicated which command tables they use. This expands
the list dramatically.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RMCEnhancer/database
But some of the command tables on the page are not set up in the PRC
file. Those I have marked with (parentheses) to identify that the
command table needs to be fixed in the original before it will work.
For example, the Zenith TV command tables are 009 and 010. But if
you look at 009 and 010 using RMCE, you'll see that the definitions
match the Sony 001 table. So those two command tables aren't set up
and you won't be able to use them until we figure out what needs to
plug into the 009 and 010 command tables.
Please note that some of the makers I've put into this table have
additional command tables that weren't listed in the original. For
instance, Samsung also has command table 025, which wasn't in the
original list.
Let me go through the setup of one of them so you can see how to do
it. Suppose you wanted to setup Scott TV codes. You look it up in
the database and see 023, 012. To set these up in RMCE, you would
first load RMCE with the TVDefs.PRC. Then go into makers and click
ADD. Enter "Scott" for the name. Click on the ADD button to add
modes. First mode label Type1 and select command table 023. Then
press OK. Now click Add to add a second mode called Type2 and select
command table 012. Click OK to add that mode, then click OK to add
the maker. Close the maker selection screen and save the PRC. You
have just added the Scott TV definitions.
I'll now proceed to do the VCR and AMP databases.

I don't know if this helps, but in my research to get the Phillips remote
app to work with my NR70V, I came across a site that has (what appears to
be) a PC software app that lets you open up IR remote command sets for
dozens for device manufacturers and tinker with them. I think it is
designed for you to be able to download them into piece of remote
hardware. In any event, this might help folks that are futzing with
trying to create codes for RMC. Check this out:

I think you should just use the sony system pallet..smaller files...faster.
As for the importing/exporting, are the buttons created from
the background image? How do we define the actual buttons?

I like the idea in #1. Sounds very simple and provides an easy way
to keep new skins organized (by directory). This is similar to old
style winamp skins, and was nice because then you could take an
existing skin and tweak it to your liking by just changing the bmp.
It's also very easy then to zip up the folder and post it for sharing.
That sounds like the simplest solution, so if it truly is, I say go
for it.

This is unknown at this time. I noticed that changing the device
type for the DVD player did stop the RMC program from controlling the
DVD. So I believe the device type does play into the picture.
The only way I'm really going to figure out what kind of control we
have is to see the IR signals. I'm not fully talked into getting a
JP1 remote yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to decipher the
right info from Omniremote and then maybe I can see how the different
protocols and device types work.
If anybody here already has a JP1 and a Sony Clie, you could help
this effort immensely.
Jason
I too would like to control my Digital Atlanta Box but haven't the
slightest idea how to get there.
Please let me konw if you find a way.

I've been looking for a way to customize the RMC program. I am not so
much looking for a way to skin it, thats not my thing.
I am however interested in a way to add new devices to the RMC
program. Kudos to Jason for all of his efforts!
I am wondering if there is a way to add new device types such as
cable? (My digital camera has a ir remote and I am sure there are
other devices that do too.)
Does the type matter? IE can I use a type of TV to add my Scientific
Atlanta digital cable box?
Thanks!

Hi there,
I'm from Germany. Greetings to all here.
Can I make Definitions for Barco with this software?
Is there somebody who can help me a little with this software.

Sorry Jason,
This stuff is over my head. I hope others here will be able to help you get
moving on this project. I'm just a newbie who wants to replace my pronto by
downloading a file to my palm. Obviously, this is more complex. It looks like
you're on to something good though. Good luck as you keep developing.
Thanks, Rich

Hopefully, this will get some messages going.
I'm looking at the skin import/export. This is the way we will be
sharing the skins. But I want some input on how to do this. Here
are some ideas.
1. When you do the export, you identify a directory to put the
bitmaps in. It will create one bitmap that is the background screen
and it will name it "Background.BMP". It will then create a bitmap
named after each button (eg, "PLAY.BMP", "STOP.BMP", etc.) When you
do an import, it will bring in the "BACKGROUND.BMP" bitmap and only
those bitmaps that exist in the directory that also exist as button
names (so if you have a bitmap in the directory called "FF.BMP" but
no button named "FF" then it won't import it.)
2. I could create a supplemental .RS file that is a text file
similar to the .INI file. It gives the filenames for each button
(thus the button names do not have to be the filenames.)
3. I could save the bitmaps the slow way or the fast way. The slow
way will include the palette that the palm uses. The fast way will
include a palette that has the colors for the bitmap, but possibly
other colors in addition that are not used, but are not on the palm's
default palette.

Opinions?
This is for technical people.
I have uploaded two files to the research folder. Both are Excel
spreadsheets which I got from the JP1 group. I think you have to
have the "Analysis Took pak" enabled in Excel in order to use these.
To enable it, go to the add-in menu. I also uploaded a sheet that
shows a complete dump of the data in the existing PRC definition
files.
Here's what I did with them. I opened all 3 spreadsheets. On the
Devices4 spreadsheet, I selected TV and then typed in a 4 digit
code. For example, I typed in 19. It came up with protocol id 00 5a
and a list of EFCs. Then I entered the EFCs for buttons 1-9 into the
second spreadsheet to get the OBCs. Once I had the OBCs, I was able
to see a correlation between those and some of the OBC codes in the
RMC list. I also noticed that the device number (4) matched.
Therefore, protocol # 25 (RMC) corresponds directly to protocol 00 5a
in the spreadsheet (what they called NEC1).
Using that information, I can enter the entire EFC list into the
spreadsheet and be able to remap anything from command tables #3, 6,
or 12 in the TV definitions (or, in other words, those command tables
that have the same device id and the same protocol).
I don't expect everybody to get this. I'm just putting this
information down to show how I'm going about getting the information
that I'll be posting.
This is going to take a little while, so if anybody wants to
participate, feel free to post any correlations. Best to do it like
this:
Device 19 = Command Table 3
Anybody up to trying this? It really isn't that hard, just time
consuming. From this information, I can map protocols to their names
and device IDs for the protocols to the makers.
Jason
ps I'm also trying to figure out how to correlate the CCF definitions
(Pronto Definitions) to the information we can put into RMC Enhancer.
It'll take little while to figure out the remaining secrets
(protocols and device codes). The best way to accomplish this is if
I can find someone who has a JP1 interface on one of their
universals, along with the Clie. Anybody here with one? A JP1
interface is available on Radio Shack 15-1994, 15-2104, 15-2107,
Cinema 7 One-for-all URC-7800, and RCA RCU-810 (there are others, but
they won't help in this effort.)
In the meantime, I'll be trying to work over the omniremote
definitions and see if I can figure out the protocols by having
Omniremote learn them and expose the definitions. I have two palms
and I can have one learn from the other. Hopefully, I can come up
with a simple way to decode it so that others can use the same
process to build tables from their existing remotes. This is going
to take time. Like I said in the Clie group, the program gets us
half of the way there -- we can now put in information into the Clie
remote program. It's a matter of finding that information now.
Those who want TV, VCR, or DVD codes, please make sure you try every
code -- and not just by using the "test" button. If you can find any
button that your TV/VCR/DVD responds to, then its usually a small
matter to remap the other buttons that don't work. One of my TVs is
a TV/VCR combo and I found that there was a VCR definition that
worked for it.
Jason
I'd be great if you could get the codes for Zenith TV's and then explain to me
how to put them on my Clie. Thanx.

The .prc files you need are on your Clie installation CD. They are
the device definitions that RMC uses to determine what IR code to
send. They are named TVdef.prc, VCRdef.prc, DVDdef.prc and AMPdef.prc
You open them with RMCEnhancer to make modifications to them.
How exactly do I use this program, there is no .prc file to add to my Clie
once i unzip it, is there meant to be?

I guess I'm the one whose going crazy. I don't even have the 1.0.4
zip file anymore, and I uploaded the 1.0.5 before I deleted the
1.0.4. The only thing I can think of is that since the filename was
the same, it must have uploaded what I had in the cache? Who knows.
Anyway, I renamed the file and tried again. Appears to have uploaded
correctly this time. Sorry about that.

I have uploaded v1.0.5 now. It fixes the color mapping problem if
you change the palette used.
There is a limit on the colors: 256 color bitmap. But worse yet,
the color palette is limited to the standard palm system palette. I
will look into having other palettes recognized by the system as well
as having a higher color bitmap. But for now, this will have to do.
I have made the button and hotspot behavior a little different. If
you click on the buttton and drag it, it will reposition. If you
press on the shift button and hold it down, then you can get to the
hotspot using the mouse the way you did before.

I will be checking here more often, but I'm keeping an eye on that
other thread until it goes into obscurity. I did see your question
over there and I put in an answer.
Quick summary:
There appears to be a mapping problem in the color algorithm. Paint
will keep the palette you originally pasted into it and that's what I
was using for testing. I'll work over the program and see if I can
fix the color mapping code.
I just posted a question on Cliesource. Would you rather have

Here's a copy of the question I asked:
I started playing around with changing skin. I copy background into
Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7, change one part of the background to red, and
then save the prc. When I hotsync and view in RMC, all I see on the
screen is the section I've just colored red. The rest of the screen
is black.
Is there something special about the format, color palette or
something else? I've got the beginnings of a great skin in Paint Shop
Pro...now if only I could make it look that way on my clie.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

Your concerns:
1) Easily import / export images. The Import and Export function are
in the design stage now. The plan is to save them out as bitmaps
with a text file defining what the bitmaps correspond to. Thus, you
can do the images by loading them. But I don't see what's so bad
about copy/paste?
2) Click and drag the images. How would you prefer I do this? The
hotspot has priority because it can be both moved and resized. The
hotspot is moved/resized even if the image is on top. The options I
can think of are: Right mouse click and drag to move the image, left
mouse click and drag to alter the hotspot. Or, I can do hold shift
to move the image, otherwise don't to move the hotspot. I can also
do vice-versa on those.
3) How to create definitions for devices that aren't there. That
process does not exist yet. But this isn't something I expect to do
on my own. I do have the JP1 group helping tremendously, and I fully
expect some people who use this program to also kick in and try to
come up with something. Ideas: Analyze the pronto/omniremote
learned codes. Hack the Sony IR library and build own learning
routine to help analyze the code. Find another source for the PRCs
(maybe sony is continually updating them).

Tests came out all positive. Worked pretty much like I expected. I
noticed that if I deleted makers and then hotsynced in the new file,
the makers I was currently using disappeared, even though I didn't
delete them. But they did show in the list when I popped it down. I
suspect the RMC program probably stores the maker number selected,
and when you delete a maker it rearranges the numbers. So you may
have to resetup the maker/mode you use in RMC if you change around
the definitions a bunch.
Will it be possible to easily import/export images, as well as
possibly being able to click and drag them? As well, for those of us
that do not know all our remote codes, how can we create
definaitions for things we have? Possibly a program for the palm
that will let us get the codes so we can create? Thanks for this
great program.
Welcome to the RMC Enhancer group.
You will find the RMC Enhancer program files in the files section.
The RMC Enhancer is freeware. The resource files should already be
on your hard drive under you backup directory for your Clie. I have
made a copy here for convenience, and I believe them to be free of
copyright (no notice found in any of the files, nor mention of it in
the Clie manual that the data files were copyright). But just to be
on the safe side, only download them if you own a Clie that came with
the Clie RMC program.
Doc is not yet completed. When it is completed, it will be uploaded
and distributed with the main program.
This is a VB6 program. As such, you need the Visual Basic 6 runtime
DLL. MS operating systems ship with this, but if you are needing a
file called MSVBVM60.DLL you can obtain it directly from
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q290887
The COMDLG32.OCX control is included with the package. If you are
getting an error relating to ActiveX controls, it's this file. What
you'll need to do is tell the system where it is by running
REGSVR32 COMDLG32.OCX
You'll need to fully qualify the filename with its path. For example:
c:\winnt\system32\regsvr32 c:\rmcenhancer\comdlg32.ocx
This should be enough to get you going.
