Since I do not own a RYW (I was considering the purchase at the time I joined
the group) I feel it better for the group that its owner be an owner of a RYW.

I won't attempt to cut/paste valuable information found on this site about
batteries.
IF you're interested in mostly-up-to-date information about charge/discharge
battery information that are short reads:

http://www.batteryuniversity.com/index.htm

After that, IF you're still in to battery off-topic, the information 10/29/2009
on new zinc-air batteries is enlightening:

Thanks Robert. I thought my cell phone instructions said to let the battery
almost completely discharge every few months -- I believe that has a lithium.
But I might be wrong.

Thanks for the info ... it's much easier not to have to worry about discharging
it.

I read somewhere a few years ago, that if you don't let a
rechargeable battery discharge completely from time to time, it
would develop a memory and the number of listening hours you would
then get on a fully charged battery would be reduced. Is that
still the case and is it the case with the Witness? I didn't see
any reference to that in the manual, but I might have missed it.

Hi

Sorry, I seem to keep on answering my own questions. My LX just displayed
"charge complete", so I guess it will not overcharge the battery while sitting
on my simple cradle that feeds 5v constantly
to the bottom connectors.

Regards
Jorge

Hi

Thanks Bob. I actually built the cradle. The contacts that matter
for charging are the two to the sides of the USB connector.
Looking at the device from the front the right one is positive
and the left one negative.

Now the question I have is: will keeping the LX in the cradle
overcharge and ruin the battery?

Thanks

Hello

I would like to build a homemade cradle for my Pogo LX, since they don't seem to
be available anymore. Does anyone know how do the contacts at the bottom work?

Thanks
Jorge

Thank you so much. You'd think they might cover that in the manual. Now, off to
set the timer for my favorite shows.

LOL I had the same problem. The little door swivels open.
Put your fingernail under the bottom of it and lift a little. The top of it
stays attached.

Have fun.

OK, my Witness just arrived. My first question is: how do I open the sd card
slot. I cannot find anywhere in the manual to tell me, and I feel quite foolish
even asking. I'm afraid of breaking it, so I will humble myself and ask. Help!

Well, I decided to go with it. I ordered a Witness and am expecting it any day.
It makes me sad to put my RYW LX aside. I just loved it when I got it and could
tape the shows that are on when I am teaching. But it just isn't reliable any
more. I will keep it for live recording purposes. It has always been handy for
recording lectures, etc.

Thanks to those who shared their opinions.

Teresa,

I love my Witness! I use it every day. As far as I know CCrane is the only place
to buy ti from. Good news for you. The price has come down since they first came
out.

I only know of one model (but then I haven't looked for another).

One thing I really love is the fact that I can listen to talk programs at a

Contrary to current messages it is very easy to click and drag podcasts to the
Witness.

Hope this helps. Let us know your decision.

Hi everyone,

My RYX LX is quickly dying - unreliable recording, unreliable buttons....you
know the sad story. I am seriously considering purchasing a Witness and am
looking for advice. From those using it, what are the pros and cons? Any
recommendations about where to purchase it from? Is there more than one model at
this point?

Thanks!

I had the same problem when I first got my RYW-LX - I didn't realize I had the
card turned the wrong way, with the label facing front. The slot was positioned
in an unusual way and I was trying to make the card go in - I was afraid I'd
ruined it but all was OK. I don't have a Witness yet, so don't know which way
the cards go in. In general, cards go in devices without too much force.

Good luck!

I will probably like it better in time but would really rather they had kept it
more simple. I use it to only download podcasts of talk shows and listen to a
few radio shows. It is easy to buy from Amazon (they offer free delivery) but
C Crane is a reliable business with good people who know their business. I would
not consider any thing other than Crane's products. gwen

try right click on "my computer" and click on explore.  You have found the
device listed as "E" and "F'.  the witness is "E" and the sd card is "F"

I have Windows XP. When you plug in your Witness, it should be listed as one of
your removeable drives. On the Witness display, you will see a file cabinet
Icon.

Back on your computer, when you click you wiill see the file structure of the
Witness -- AM, FM, Line IN, etc. If you can't find the drive, click on our
"Safety Remove Hardware" icon in your system tray -- it should list the active
drives.

Once you locate the drive and hence see the Witness file structure, simply
choose the correct folder and open it. Now, the easiest way is to simply find
the file on your computer that you want to download to the Whitness and drag and
drop it into the Witness target folder.

Windows XP supports Plug & Play, so your computer should see the Witness as soon
as you connect it to the USB port -- make sure the connection to the Witness and
the USB port are solid. If you still don't see the Witness, try rebooting.

If you call Crane, they are always very helpful. You can also try emailing them
directly.
