I just installed the newest version of the application, but it is set
to expire on December 29th, yesterday. Am I doing something wrong?

I just downloaded RatShopper, and the first thing I tried to do was
import my Handyshopper backup files. The problem was the program would
not let me type anything in the file pathway box. No way to tell it
where to import from. Completely non funtional. What going on?

ok here is the trick. Took soem time to figure it out

1) install 2_10
2) use the application without importing handyshopper files(config
palm backup directory etc)
3) unzip all files from 2_12 into where the 2_10 is installed
(overwrite the 2_10 files)
4) copy the IconList.TPS from Files(in this group) and overwrite the
one in the ratshopper install directory on your computer
5) unzip the files from 2_15 into where the 2_10 is installed
(overwrite the 2_10 files)
6 ) open RatShooper, go to help->enable me. Don't do anything just
click ok->ok.

Now, the problem is I cannot open the hs2 files (*.pdb). I get "file
access error"

1. Whenever a list is exported from Rat Shopper, the Unfiled category
is messed up. I assume this is unintentional. Here is what happens to
me. I import my Handyshopper file. I edit it. I export it. When the
list is updated on my palm, whatever category was first in the list in
Rat Shopper takes on the attributes of the default category Unfiled on
the handheld. It is at the very bottom of the list. It can not be
edited at all. I ran tests. If I put a space in front of Unfiled or
any other character that causes it to stay as the first category in
the list, it behaves correctly when updated on the palm, just with the
extra character.

2. I can add items when browsing categories or the current list. I can
not add item when browsing the stores. It says it is unsupported.

3. Handyshopper allows text for aisles, but Rat Shopper does not. If I
edit an item that has a text aisle (meat, dairy etc)I must delete the
aisle info in order to save changes. Then I have to put the aisles
back on my palm.

I am new to Rat Shopper and not ready to do a full review of the
software. I will say it is a very good program and love the price!
Right now I would suggest fixing the Unfiled problem, supporting
adding items from browse stores and fixing the aisle discrepancy. I
would like to see the ability to select multiple items and edit any
feature. Splashshopper does this. You select the items, choose edit
multiple and input the info for any feild you need to change. I would
also find it extremely useful to be able to scroll between items or
start another new item while in item detail.

Just wanted to say thanks. By reloading the ICONS file, the program
worked. I am enjoying being able to make mods and load it back to
my pda! It is SO MUCH easier.

Thanks again

What are the chances of getting a global change for the Priority? To
be able to set all priorities to the same. I downloaded a shopping
list from the "database on Handy-shopper" and need to reset all the
priorities. I really don't want to reset 2,816 items one by one.

Also, is it possible to get a report that allows a given store,
example Walmart, single space sorted by aisle, that only displays the
description, aisle, units, price?

What are the possibilities of allowing user reports in the future?
Just curious.

I think this is a great program and am very pleased with it.

Thanks

Try downloading IconList.TPS from the files section here, and use it
to replace the file with the same name on your system.

Also check if there is a sub-directoy ICONS with around 80 files in it.

So, there is no alternative but to press OK and it ends the

Hello all! Since around 1996 I have run the palm@... mailing
list which has focused on Palm PDA's. It used to be the Pilot list but they
changed the name of the product some years back. Anyhow, I can't believe it has
been 10 years. And for almost as long I have completely ignored all of the other
PDA related mailing lists and groups so I decided to check out some of the
groups here on yahoo. There are a LOT! It is amazing to me how many there are
and how much they overlap. For example there are 11 medically related PDA groups
out there!

I bought a US Robotics Pilot with 512k of RAM and then the 1M upgrade for my
first PDA. Years later I now sport a Treo 650. Every generation gets better and
better. Can't wait until they go Linux! :)

The mailing list has gotten rather quite in recent years (averaging only a few
posts per day) as it seems every one has moved over to yahoo groups. But I will
keep it going for as long as anyone uses it. If anyone prefers a real
traditional email based list over the web/yahoo based system you can subscribe
here:

http://copilotconsulting.com/mailman/listinfo/palm

But nowadays I am more interested in helping out the PDA community with my more
general PDA related wiki:

http://thepdawiki.com

where I have compiled an extensive list of PDA User Groups. The software and
hardware sections still need some filling out. You are welcome to edit the wiki
and add your favorite hardware platform or software (even if you are selling it)
to the appropriate page. You can also add your favorite yahoo group to the
mailing list page.

The software has never made it out of Beta stage, because I never have
time to upgrade it. I know of a couple of minor bugs, but nobody ever
mentioned them, so I assume no one else ever found them.

However, it works for find almost everyone, so you should ignore the
fact it is in Beta. Any bugs you find, just post them here.

Is there really any Ratshopper Beta 2.16, VC? I only see "ratshopper_2_15.ZIP"
in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RatShopper/files/ .

I'm running Ratshopper Beta 2.12 okay.

However, copying then executing Ratshopper Beta 2.15 gave an error of "File
IconList could not be opened. Error: Invalid Record Declaration (47)".

I then tried to download "IconList.TPS" in
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RatShopper/files/ , but unfortunately that gave
an error of "Document Not Found", so I'm back to using 2.12.

This program DOES NOT run on a palm. It also does not HotSYnc.

It only passes a file to HotSync to download to the palm - so it does
not care what kind of PDA you have.

What you need to know is whether HandyShopper runs on your PDA, and
you should check with them - we are two independant developers. See
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/handyshopper/

I recntly discovered Handy Shopper and Rat Shopper. HAvent done
anything with Handy yet. I figure Id start with Rat first. Well I
loaded 2.10 and then 2.12. Not only would it not let met create
anything its also timed out. Expired.

SO I want to uninstall the whole thing and maybe start all over. I
notice I need to create something first in 2.10......

So AS I dont see the program listed in Windows Uninstall... do I just
delete the whole thing?????

How does one UNINSTALL this program???

When I do reinstall 2.10 do I need to register it? Isnt it freeware
like HAndy SHopper?

The FAQ is on the Web site under the button FAQ

The program works for a lot of people, and they love it, For a few it
just does not work. It is impossble to provide support for these
situations as the time involved to individually walk someone through
the steps to diagnose the problem is prohibitive.

I do support work in a commercial environment and the typical charge
would be several hundred dollars.

I developed the program for my own use, and decided to make it
available as a free utility, that's why it's always been labelled BETA.

It has never been resolved to my knowledge. My advice would be to
download and install version 2.10 (available on the "Files" page of
the Rat Shopper Yahoo groups page), then download and install version
2.12 (2.12 needs 2.10 to be installed first).

I've had no problems running 2.12, but 2.15 apparently can only be
installed by the lucky few.

Your software sounds great in theory. Installing has been a
nightmare. I have followed all instructions to many times to
count. The FAQ which was requested does not have a step by step as
someone else on the forum asked for. The instructions are very easy
to follow, they just do not work.

Please make me feel really stupid and show that it was as easy as
plugging in the computer.

Thanks for your support.

I decided to proceed with updating to the next version (2.12) even
though 2.10 wasn't working correctly and everything worked fine.
Maybe my problem had to do with the newer version of Handy Shopper,
I don't know...but I am HAPPY! The 2.15 update was also a success.
Thanks for the great product!

No, I didn't miss that step, but I did have to manually type that
information in the box. Above the Last Exported File box it showed
the file name and I used that file, as it was correct.

Any other ideas????

It's possible you are leaving out a step.

After you export, the exported name will appear in the box near the
bottom left of the window in "Last Exported File" - you then have to
press the "<- Install to PDA" pink button.

The reason is that 'export' just takes the active shopping list and
creates a file on the desktop computer. It does not assume that you
want to send that to the PDA since you could possibly be working on
more than one shopping list and are going to do further work with them.

deleted the hs2convert file in the Rat Shopper folder and copied the
hs2convert file from HandyShopper to the Rat Shopper folder.

I pointed Rat Shopper to my PDA backup directory and my PDB file.
Everything seemed to go smoothly...the file seemed to export as it
opened up my palmOne quick install program. However, when I HotSync
the file it does not import any of my changes.

I have deleted ALL files and tried a fresh install but continue to have
the same problem. I thought it had to do with the hs2convert file, but
I know I did that all correctly.

Please HELP!!!

Thanks a million. :-)
