Description

RemEnKimi is a Coptic word meaning "Coptic"

This group is for communication in Coptic language, sharing writings, emails, voicemails, lessons, pictures, sounds & anything else spoken or written in Coptic. It's also, a discussion group for those who are interested in learning the native Egyptian Language in its last phase of development: Coptic. The dream is to bring back spoken Coptic to the Coptic community and to be able to use Coptic in daily conversation.

RemEnKimi (Ramenkamy), means Coptic. 'Rem' from RWMI means human; 'En' 'N' means of; & Kimi 'Kami' KMT' means black. It refers to Egypt as well. So, it means 'Humans of Egypt' (Coptic). The Three capital letters denote the starting letter of each word. As well, it means REK from 'RIKI' which means bend at or lean at, a subtle invitation to lean at Coptic.

RemEnKimi's anonymous. It is more of a collaborative work that extends beyond names, cultural, ethnic or religious backgrounds. It's related to the language, not confined to the speakers. RemEnKimi in a nutshell is a Coptic communication folklore that started by the end of the 20th century. The group welcomes Old Bohairic, Greco-Bohairic or any other pronunciation, as the main aim is communication; rather than debate.

It was inspired by (historical order)
Claudius Labib: dreamed of reviving Coptic as a spoken language, had a prolific production of books, composing texts in Coptic, speaking & teaching Coptic as a spoken language.
Dr Emile Maher Ishaq(D.Phil): pioneered Coptic language revival in its Old Bohairic pronunciation and produced many educational programmes that promotes the language in daily usage.

It may sound as if it's a group of dreamers, who are hooked to a dead past. However, the group's aware of the difficulties of this approach, but, practicing Coptic is not an esoteric dream per se, it's fun too, after all it's a community, that does not hoot or lament for the death of Coptic language, but rather enjoys utilising it.
