I've been already around 4 and a half years in japan, and although I
do speak japanese with some fluency I am having some problems to
remember the names of the people that I see on TV in Japan
I was wondering if somebody else out there has tried something like
that in the past, and at best reuse their template (and probably quite
a few of the cards! )
I am thinking in some sort of cards inclding some
name kanji
name hiragana
nickname
nickname hiragana
group / job

Isn't there a way to add a CAPTCHA, or are these spam bots smart enough to solve them?

Are you already moderating? I've received only one flurry of spam
lately and blacklisting earnnow@... eliminated that.
There are already obstacles to keep bots out. Requiring new users to
reply to an invite should keep out anyone with no valid email. If you
would like help with that, please contact me off list and I'll be happy
to help.

The link to the FB group doesn't work.
I would like to help with moderation as well

Hi all,
Like you, I am fed up with the spam messages that are posted to the group. Deleting them and banning the members who posted them is a pain.
From now, I'm going to moderate messages from new members.
I need your help. If you can assist in the moderation, let me know. Given the amount of spam, I'm considering closing the group to new members and sending the traffic over to the Facebook group:

Hi all,
I just wanted to say welcome to the list to all those who have recently joined. For reasons I can not comprehend the list has suddenly gotten a large influx of members. We are now approaching almost 600 members.
I can't cope with checking out individual applications so I have returned the list to automatic membership again. I think it is going to be less stressful (for me!) to delete the spam members than to deal with the "WHY HAVEN'T YOU APPROVED MY MEMBERSHIP YET???!!" messages.
If anyone feels that they are especially qualified to be a list admin, please let me know. I'm looking for easy going people who admin another Yahoo group (or similar) or who would like to give it a try.
Also, if new members seem to be going off at too much of a tangent please gently guide them back on topic.

This is your choice of course, but I'm unclear as to how moving to
facebook will help. Personally I have all the on-line presence I think
will help me. I've already turned down invites to facebook and some of
the other on-line social networking sites. I won't be moving to facebook.

The last bunch of spam all came from earnnow@.... That person --
if there is a person -- is: 1) A member of the group and 2) responsible
for the spam. The admin can remove a person from the list. Why not
whack the earnnow@... from the list? There are things in place
that make it difficult for a 'bot to join a group but if this is a
person, they could easily re-join.

If someone has anti-spam, like me, this message would have been caught. But then someone answer it, making it appear in my inbox and lose my time. So, please, just ignore the spams.

I have all his books. I also DLed a word file from this site maybe a year or so ago which was a copy/paste copy of his first 2 volumes. I tried searching the site for the 3rd volume, but I came up with nothing. If I simply missed a link, please just pass it over.

Thanks guys ;)
The kanjidic file available at http://ftp.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo/kanjidic.gz contains skip codes for at least the vast majority of the characters in it. I just redownloaded the file and with a single well executed regexp replace in emacs made the file attached :)
So far, I've got a spreadsheet with the number, keyword, a story, the kanji and it's readings, now I want to add the skip count.
So, I'm wondering, has anyone got a spreadsheet or a list of all of the skip counting references? That would be very handy for me to have, it would save me a lot of hassle when looking things up.
Thanks in advance for that.
