Dear ALL,
Although, initially Sage Publications was showing interest in publishing
this journal, we have now decided to go for an 'open access' model of
publishing. This means, the Journal's contents will be freely available to
everyone on the Internet.
Sage has already expressed it 'reluctance' for the online open access model
of publication. On our side, we are definitely inclined to pursue the
online open access model. Hence, we have decided, in principle, to move
away from Sage. The scholarly and peer-reviewed character of the journal
will not change, however.
We are negotiating with a few electronic publishers. It seems, we will need
to pay some amount every year to the publisher to meet their costs. We are
trying to raise this amount through institutional tie-ups. We want this to
be as broad-based as possible, as a truly global initiative, providing an
online platform for researchers to relate to each other at an
'infra-disciplinary' level, i.e., the level of thinking and practice that
underlie various academic and professional disciplines. So far, we have got
two institutions agreeing to commit some amount annually, and some are in
discussion with us about it:
Committed:
Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Santiago, Chile (confirmed $1000 per
annum)
Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, India (confirmed $500 per
annum, can go up)
In discussion:
Centre for Science in Society, Bryn Mawr, PA, USA
Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science (ISABS), New Delhi, India
[some of our editorial members are also trying with their respective
institutions]
I would appreciate if you can give a lead about an academic institution or
professional association that may be interested in supporting this online
journal initiative.
I hope the final pieces of the puzzle to be in place by the end of this
year. Since online publication is a much faster process, we are likely to
launch the first issue before our scheduled date of Apr 2005.
