Description

Rhapis palms, also known as Lady Palms, are easy to grow beautiful palms.   These little palm trees are easily grown in indoors or outdoors either in pots or in the ground as long as they are protected from frost damage.

While the common species, Rhapis excelsa, is a beautiful plant itself, the main interest is in the dwarf or miniature varieties.   There are both green and variegated forms of the miniatures.   In Japan these gorgeous mini palms have been raised for hundreds of years.   These are highly collectible and some literally can take your breath away.

Because of their slow growth rate and rarity, a kansochiku (Rhapis palm) can be expensive but their ease of care and hardiness means you will likely have the miniature palm tree for life!

Topics may also cover both common and rare Rhapis species: excelsa, filiformis, gracilis, humilis, laosensis, micrantha, multifida, robusta, subtilis, and any new discoveries, their propagation and conservation.

The group is truly international so everyone is welcome!   Please don't worry about language problems.   We will work those out as we go along.   I hope you will join us and help make the group an active and interesting place for Rhapis palm collectors!

There are two books in English on Rhapis palms that I know of and here is a link to them:
