Thanks for the info, Gene. I'll leave that debate to those who know
better than I, but my experience with the same mount was that your
909 gave much better results. It is possible I started using the pulse
commands rather than generic LX200 commands at that time, as I
did upgrade the ASCOM driver around then, so maybe *that* made
the difference..
I might re-create that setup later this year and directly compare the
two methods again, as it would be an interesting exersize.
Apologies for any confusion this may have caused, Renaud, but I fully
agree - *do* try it - only (free) software, a USB>serial adapter and a
serial cable for your 497 (which can easily be made yourself) is needed.
Regards,

Rob,
There have been some heated debates in other egroups on how well the 497 serial
input works for guiding. Some people swear by it, other at it. I believe
autostaretx will tell you the inputs from the AuxBus from the 909 end up in the
same variables as the serial input. Now how they are used might be different.
Renaud, if your machine has a true serial port, go for it. If not, pick up a
known to work well USB to serial adapter, then go for it!
:-)
The ASCOM platform allows guding with DSI via programs other than Envisage.
Using ASCOM also opens up the 'pulseguide' commands of the 497 (not limited to
lx200 command set) if you use the correct ASCOM driver.
I do not think Envisage uses anthing more than lx200 commands to a 497, which
-is- severly limiting compared with the pusleguide commands.
