Subject: Students needed on archaeological excavation in Holland
The field unit of the University of Leiden (ARCHOL) is about to start work
on a large site at Bennekom (central Netherlands).
The excavation is a 3ha commercial project, covering (probably) Bronze Age,
Iron Age and Medieval (ca. 1500 BC - 1500 AD).
Work starts 17th July and continues until the begining of November (15 weeks
in all). The project team will consist of 4 members of staff and 4
students. Two of the student places are provisionally reserved for
Institute undergraduates/graduates. ARCHOL are particularly keen to find
students available towards the end of the summer (September/October).
ARCHOL offer 75 euro per week subsistence, and free accommodation (shared
room for two).
It is described as "a fun and interesting project, investigating huge areas
instead of just small trenches" and has having "nice and soft sand without
those annoying pebbles."
This is the first of a series of collaborations between Archol/Leiden and
the Institute's Field Archaeology Unit (Centre for Applied Archaeology).
Please contact me directly if you are interested or know of anyone who might
be suitable.
