Hello from Cardiff,
If you are considering doing graduate work in Archaeology and/or Conservation,
then you might want to visit our website and have a look at the following
one-year MAs and MScs:
MA in Archaeology
MA in Early Celtic Studies
MA in Early Medieval Culture and Society
MA in the European Neolithic
MSc in Conservation
MSc in Care of Collections
We still have places on each of these programmes and we accept applications on a
rolling basis (though we will close recruitment as programmes fill up). Courses
start at the end of September.
Many US students find that a combination of a one-year Cardiff MA/MSc and a
three year Cardiff PhD is the most cost-efficient way to gain internationally
respected qualifications.
See the main Cardiff Archaeology and Conservation website:
http://www.cf.ac.uk/hisar/archaeology/
Thanks and let me know if I can be of any help.

model projects which incorporate strong research, planning and educational
objectives.
*In all projects, develop strong collaborative relationships so as to build
local expertise, ensure sustainability, evaluate work in progress and
broadly disseminate information resulting from projects.
*Explore ideas for future projects that address thematic areas in the
context of standing buildings and urban centers as well as archaeological
sites.
*Disseminate our findings through professional publications and conferences;
and contribute to the advancement of the field of conservation through the
organization of seminars, symposia and workshops.
Successful candidates will be expected to conduct fieldwork and research for
the conservation of archaeological sites, buildings and decorated surfaces.
These projects are located in various parts of the world and will require
the successful candidates to travel frequently.
For both positions, experience and interest in the conduct of conservation
needs assessments, applied scientific research and the development of
methodologies is preferred. All candidates should have excellent

Subject: [anthgrad] Latest on NSF Funding (S.2802)
To: anthgrad <anthgrad@...>
Just incase you did not get this message...
Message from Senator Barbara Boxer:
"Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) had originally sought to ensure
that NSF funding would focus solely upon physical science -
specifically the technology, mathematics, and engineering fields.
However, I joined my Senate colleague Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) in
opposing this approach on the grounds that such a narrow focus could
stifle important social science research. When faced with this
opposition, Senator Hutchison added her support to social science
funding.
On May 18, 2006, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and
Transportation unanimously approved S.2802, which will now be
considered by the full Senate. As a member of this committee, I voted
for passage of S.2802, but only after Senator Hutchison agreed to the
compromise laid out by Senator Lautenberg."

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED
Please consider this request for immediate action. This is likely one of
the most important requests for action you will ever receive from the
American Anthropological Association (AAA) as it involves a
legislative threat to National Science Foundation research funding for
the social and behavioral sciences. At a meeting of the Senate
Commerce Committee TODAY, an authorizing bill S. 2802 focusing on
American competitiveness will be marked up (i.e. negotiated). It is
imperative that legislators hear from the social and behavioral science
community before this bill is finalized. Please review the following and
make a call:
ACTION NEEDED: If your Senator is listed below, please call or email your
senator this morning regarding a proposed amendment by Senator Kay Bailey
Hutchison (R-TX) that would instruct the National Science Foundation (NSF)
to direct its resources primarily to the physical sciences. It is likely
that the Hutchison amendment would significantly reduce or eliminate NSF
funding for the social sciences. Congress should not be micromanaging the
NSF, which supports fundamental research in all science disciplines,
including anthropology.
MESSAGE: Please contact your senator, identify yourself as a constituent,
and communicate the following simple messages:
OPPOSE the Hutchison amendment to S. 2802 (the "American Innovation and
Competitiveness Act of 2006") which excludes the behavioral and social
sciences from consideration in the awarding of NSF research grants, and
undercuts their role in advancing national innovation and competitiveness.
SUPPORT the amendment to S. 2802 sponsored by Senator Frank Lautenberg
(D-NJ) which would eliminate the section of S. 2802 that prescribes
research priorities to the NSF.
BACKGROUND: Since last fall's release of the National Academy of Sciences
report, "Rising Above the Gathering Storm" a congressionally requested
report offering a set of recommendations aimed at restoring U.S. advantages
in the marketplace, specifically in scientific and technology significant
congressional and executive branch attention has been focused on U.S.
innovation and competitiveness. A range of legislative initiatives have
been introduced to promote innovation and competitiveness in various
ways. S. 2802 authorizing legislation that frames spending parameters
but does not appropriate funds is the latest of these
initiatives. Although S. 2802 is only authorizing legislation, it should
be noted that many of the senators who will be voting on it also serve on
the Senate Appropriations Committee which has spending authority for the NSF.

ioa-mphil-l@... Subject: Directorship of Kenyon
Institute (Jerusalem) Importance: High
Please forward to interested colleagues:
The Council for British Research in the Levant
is seeking to appoint a new Director of the Kenyon Institute, Jerusalem
The CBRL conducts research in the subject areas supported by
the British Academy in the countries of the Levant. It is expected that the
successful candidate will recently have completed a PhD in a relevant subject
and will be seeking to develop an active research interest in the Israel and
the Palestinian Territories, leading to the production of a significant
publication. Their duties will include research and developing and
administering the CBRL's facilities at the Kenyon Institute in East Jerusalem.
The CBRL is keen that its research personnel should maintain strong links with
universities in the UK. Applicants are therefore encouraged to propose ways in
which they might maintain a formal connection during their period of
appointment with a UK university department that is generally acknowledged for
the excellence of its research in the applicant's particular field. Any
applicant wishing to do so may therefore include with their application a
letter from the head of the department to which they intend being attached,
setting out what the research facilities would be extended to them in the event
of their being appointed to the post.
The post is tenable for three years, subject to successful completion of an
initial six-month probationary period.
Salary will start at £19,789 and be based on the British Academy post-doctoral
scale, taking into account the provision of free accommodation in Jerusalem.
Further details may be obtained from our
website at http://www.cbrl.org.uk/news.shtm
or contact Penny Wiggins, 10 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH
(cbrl@...)
Applications, including a curriculum vitae, a detailed research
proposal, a letter from the head of the candidate's sponsoring department (if
appropriate) and two references, should reach the CBRL Secretary at the British
Academy, 10 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH by 20 February 2006.
Interviews will be held in London on Tuesday 14 March 2006. The successful applicant will be expected to take up the post as soon a possible
after 1 of April 2006.

I know some friends already who have met a few nice honeys off of this
kind of stuff (here is the place they use: http://www.freebeerishere.info/hfru ,
but what do you think? I think it is mad cool from what I saw at my friend’s
house, and am thinking of signing up later today. Basically it's a regular
personalssite, but with an instant message and Webcams system built in.
Basically you join their chat-room on their site it gives you a link to those
people online in the chat-room, their location, their picture, etc and at one
click you can start chatting to them over Webcam (even if you don't have one).
Pretty nifty stuff I think!
Hi all,
I have moderated other Yahoo groups and I know that there is a feature
that allows the group's owners/moderators to first
accept/reject/delete whatever someone posts to the group. It means a
minimal amount of extra work for you in setting it up and then
screening each email that comes in. Would it be possible to have this
group set up this way? I'd hate to see people live Steve keep jumping
ship because this group becomes a spam magnet. Please let me know if
you need any assistance in setting this up.
Best,
Arleen

Good luck guys. It is time to unsubscribe. Between
this group and others, too much spam.
