Some things to consider as we are out in the winter
Your car - A couple of items that may help you over the miles you may drive are
good headlights and a clear windshield. Two products that are highly recommend
to help you maintain good vision in bad weather or in darkness are Sylvania
Silver Star Headlamps/modules

and Rain-X windshield rain repellant paired with Bosch brand wiper blades. All
of these are available at Auto Parts stores and are well worth the extra money.
The headlamps have a "higher color temperature" which means are whiter and that
makes reflective/fluorescent objects show up brighter and quicker.
Your clothing - The other item is getting the most from your outdoor/technical
clothing so you can be fully protected out there. Most of you have Gortex
parkas and/or trousers or something similar. These fabrics work their magic
only when they are clean. Regular laundry detergents have brighteners that add
ions to your fabrics which actually attract water molecules and get you wet and
prevent the fabric from breathing. Not a good thing being wet and cold!!! I
use Nikwax nondetergent wash and conditioners for all my synthetic clothing. I
have seen cruddy old surplus Parkas look like new after one treatment and they
shed water like a ducks back again.
Check out their website at: http://www.nikwax.co.uk/en-us/index.php Nikwax is
available at REI & many outdoor stores.
