To All;
For those who have access to WCIA-TV,
Channel 3, you may be interested in watching a
man-trailing (Bloodhound) demonstration they
taped in April... which will be shown tomorrow
morning. We simulated a car-jacking and
abduction of a young woman, so they could tape
the entire mile-long trail from beginning to
end. It demonstrates how a Bloodhound can follow
the scent trail of a subject that left or was
taken in a vehicle; ID the abandoned vehicle; and
complete the trail to where our "victim" was tied
up, gagged, and left in a wooded area! Our trail
started from the parking lot at the Champaign
County Humane Society and ended in the woods in
Weaver Park (Urbana). A street sweeper went over
the scent trail as we were working "Rummy" that
morning, but even that didn't dissuade her from
following the scent! Following is the 1/2 hour
program that will highlight companion animals, so
our segment may be cut considerably...
Illini Farm and Garden TV on WCIA Channel 3 (or
4) on Sunday, July 1st, 2007 (airs at 7:00 a.m., C.S.T.)
Please feel free to share with anyone or
group you wish, as we want to use this as
educational material to promote the use of
scent-discriminating man-trailers (and other
types of search dogs) in missing persons
cases. Oh, yes... no dog or "victim" was harmed in this simulation!
Locally, we have two recent unresolved
cases (that I know of) and they have refused our
volunteer services. One young woman has been
missing since March 9th, and our dogs were NEVER
called out. The latest is a 36-year-old mother
of 7 children (yes, that's SEVEN children from
ages 7 to 17 without a mother, now) that has been
missing since May 21st, and it was a battle to be
permitted to start "Rummy" on the 5th day of her
disappearance! We were NOT allowed to finish the
trail we started, although the investigator with
us could clearly see we had the trail! It was
not his fault; his superiors would not permit him
to work with us and resume the trail after the Memorial holiday!
On Friday, June 29th, we ran a trail on
our own with this investigator's knowledge... but
without any L.E. assistance. It was the 39th day
of the disappearance of Naomi Arnette of Sadorus,
IL., and I was doubtful we could pick up the
trail... but decided to try anyway, because the
weather conditions were optimal. I cannot and
will not discuss the case beyond these general
remarks that I CAN say, but "Rummy" DID
successfully pick up the trail on this particular
leg of the missing person's route. We started at
9:00 a.m. and had to stop around 12:00 noon, due
to my injuring my right arm while lifting up and
shoving my dog in our van as quickly as I could
to get her away from two large dogs (one was a
Great Dane twice her size) that were running
loose and threatening to attack. That ended our
search, but we were tired from the approx. 14
miles we covered, using the "drop-trail"
method. We are now into July and, by the time my
arm is useable and the weather conditions would
be right, our window of opportunity could very
well be gone... even so, without backup to keep
the loose dogs away, it wouldn't be smart to go
back there and tempt them again! I reported this
trail to our sheriff's department, which was not
interested in documenting what we had... citing
that they were not working with me! I want
people to know what is happening, here, as our
newspaper refuses to do an investigative
report... and I have contacted USA Today, but
have not heard back from them. Something needs
to be done to prevent this from happening
again... because it could be someone's little
child the next time!! We have NEVER gone on a
search uninvited, and have ALWAYS conducted
ourselves and our searches very professionally
and maintained confidentiality... so that is not
the problem! Our dogs are proven and cases
documented (one on The New Detectives in Oct. of
2001), but we have been essentially boycotted...
and they refuse to say why! It didn't used to be
this way, and they ranged from "pretty good" to
"great" to work with... but we have had changes
in command in all of our local departments, and a
definite change in attitude towards us and using the dogs!
Friends, family and other concerned
citizens are corresponding on the CourtTV.com
website under the Amber Alerts and Missing
Persons message board... then to the forum under
her name; friends of the family have also set up
a website for her
under... www.naomiarnette.com ...if you would
help spread the word and assist them in keeping
this case in the media, everyone would deeply
appreciate it! A family member has taken the 7
children into her home and is fighting to keep
them together (she has children of her own, too);
this is a very tragic case... and the kids didn't
ask for any of this!! Please help keep the
search going, for their sake! Thank you!!! >:D< @>----
