One of the courses I recommend for anyone involved in SAR or first responder
activities is Hazmat Awareness including how to use the Emergency Response
Guide (ERG). (Actually I recommend anyone in society to know how to use an
ERG for that matter, I taught my stepkids when they were about middle school
age.. it's not rocket science!)
In that light, here's some training info you may wish to use with your teams
whether it be SAR, CERT, emergency communications / ham radio, etc.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) has produced a
companion training video to enhance the use of the Emergency Response
Guidebook 2008 (ERG2008). The video was developed under a cooperative
agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and
Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). The video explains
the contents of the ERG and how to use it as a resource in the event of
a hazardous materials transportation incident. The ERG2008 training
video is available for direct viewing from PHMSA's website or
downloadable from the IAFC's Internet television channel, IAFC TV,
at ERG2008.
