On Sunday, January 20, at 2 pm, Dr. Michael Wiant, director of the Dickson
Mounds Museum, will be presenting the first program in our Winter Lecture
Series, speaking on "The Hopewell Mound Builders: Life in Illinois 2000 Years
Ago." The lecture is free and open to the public.
The focus of this year's lectures will be the Middle Woodland Hopewell
Culture. Dr. Brad Lepper from the Ohio Historical Society will be discussing
"Ohio Hopewell" on February 17, and Joe Harl will discuss "Missouri Hopewell" on
April 27. We are still making arrangements for a speaker on Southern Hopewell
for a March date and will let you know when that is confirmed.
Larry Kinsella will be teaching a Beginner's Flintknapping Workshop on
Saturday, January 26, from Noon to 4 pm in the Interpretive Center.
Preregistration (call 618-346-5160 or email cahokia.mounds@...) is
required. The fee is $30, payable to Larry. There is a 10% discount for Cahokia
Mounds Museum Society members. Larry will provide all the materials and tools,
but you can bring your own if you have them.
