ICC met for the last time this term, and the SOU Robotics Club's
budget was discussed and questioned. In the end all ICC
representatives approved the budget in full with only good comments
and some interested to join the club.
I first discussed who we are. I defined a Robot as autonomous. I
identified the pizza party as a recruiting and social event. I then
Talked about the Sumo Bots and our eagerness to begin. There were
many questions about the robots and then questions about the price.
I was asked about years to come. They wanted to know how long the
bots would last, I said only for the year. I then explained that an
important value behind having them was the actual energy put into
building them. Last I talked about the banner. I said we need a
banner to represent our school and club in the best way possible. I
also said that the banner should be durable.
The motion was made and secounded to approve the budget in full.
With no further discussion all approved the budget.
I would like to appologize that this Friday I will not be able to
attend the club meeting due to a special event in San Jose. I've
been involved with IRC as well as other stuff. I have been selected
to represent SOU at the PACURH Confrence. It will only take this
weekend and should strengthen my leadership skills. Please accept my
appology.

Info on the next Southern Oregon Robotics Socity meeting:
Next Meeting Saturday Nov. 12th
6:00pm, Pizza Hut 1465 Ne 6th St, Grants Pass.
Non members can attend.
Hi,
I'm sorry to say no money was provided this week. We can still play
with a servo motor, and the IR sensor.
I was told today I seem to get ahead of myself as far as concepts go,
and that was not my intention; rather, to provide an overview in the
form of a generalization. Is everyone conferrable with going through
the digital fundamentals quickly, or in detail?
Coop
Howdy,
Tara, it would be great if you call people. Cody you are off the hook.
I hope there is good news about the budget.
Stephen decided he has too many obligations, and is resigning as
secretary. This of course means we need to elect a secretary at the
next meeting. (Any volunteers?) The job of secretary is to take the
minutes of the meetings (just jot down the main points), deal with the
sign in sheet, and call/email members (for reminders and special
events/topics).
I have a math test on Friday, so if we actually got the money approved
I am hopefully going to send a friend of mine to get the kits. I
really need to be studding tomorrow night.
Prepare to learn binary numbering system, and hexadecimal Friday, as
well as "play" with an inferred sensor. I'd also like to review
digital gates, and hopefully get into Boolean expressions. Most of
all I would like to start soldering components to the "brain" of the
sumo kit.
Coop
Hullo,this is Tara, the girl.
As can be inferred, I have gone through the Yahoo business and am on
the site. My plan at this point was to view the readily apparent
phone numbers and make some annoying phone calls. Due to what I'm
certain is a user error, this phone list is not readliy apparent. How
do I get to this information?
Thanks.
We can discuss the details either at the meeting on Friday or on the
phone. Thanks again for going; those meetings can be so boring. I
don't know why they don't just divide it evenly and everyone carry on,
but its all about the process.
Coop
ICC was neat. I made sure that we were signed in and I took notes on
what was passed. We moved two larger requests up to EAAC so that the
ICC funds were not impacted as much. There was a question on how much
money, on average, each club would get, in the accurance that all
would be distributed equally. It came to around $1300. That's not
important really, just thought to say it.
SOURC's budget may come up next week, so if I'm the one to represent
us there every week I may want to know the ins and outs of all the
items on our budget.
I have a busy Thursday, but if we could straighten it all out by next
wednesday, that would be cool.
Are we still on in the Science department on Friday?
If the budget does get approved, then cost will be $5, plus
motors/servos, sensors, wheels, and chassis. If we have the raffle,
and it does well, it might not cost anything. I hope to write the CEO
of Parallax tomorrow with the angle their product will be gaining
exposure in our school. ------------ Any ideas for raising more funds
are very welcome ----------
Coop
I would like to get another bot, so how much will I have to pay for that
won't be covered by the club funds? Is that the $45 price, or will it be
less than that?

The latest:
I can give you 10% off any combination however you
guys decide to do it. I actually went and looked at the full mini sumo
quote and I can give you that for even cheaper. I was thinking that my
servo price was $8 each, but they're $12 each so I am able to knock off
a few more dollars per kit than I thought. I will let you guys have the
full mini sumo kits as mentioned before for $60 each, that would save
you about $3 per kit if you do that rather than separating it. If you
still have to separate it up, here's the breakdown.
Single board kits are $45
minus 10% comes to $40.50
I'll give them to you for an even $40 each.
Kits include all the afore mentioned minus the wheels, chassis and line
sensors. Also minus the servos of course.
I also looked at the Parallax site and see that they dropped the price
of those servos again. That's a great deal!!

The conroller is only $45 in kit form... Thats only 10 more than I
thaught. That's the only thing I had asked about, but the reply
included more. He's asking me if anyone wants to buy anything from him
to let him know before he comes next Friday.

Stephen R Abts is interested in the secretary position. All in favor reply to this post with an "I", and it's a done deal. He does have a prior obligation this Friday, but assures me he will be in regular attendance. Wednesday after at 4 pm I am available, and we should meet to ratify the constitution, and work on the budget. It looks like we can soon get started with true business of the club…. Building robots.
Coop
P.S. if you would like not to receive an email for every post, I can fix that. I am receiving only special notices.
I didn't realize the price of the sumo11 went up. I got mine 2 years
ago. Any suggestions? As a rule college students are broke.
http://1sorc.com/
Building from scratch is an option. He gave me a quote at:
----------------------------------------------------------------
These kits include:
Chassis w/ hardware
Wheels w/ bands
AA Battery pack
9v clip
Non-assembled Sumo11 mainboard
Two line sensors
Software CD
Bonus trial CD
NOTE: forward sensors are not included.
So basically, here's the breakdown:
Mini Sumo (kit) = $99
minus two servos @ $7 ea = -$14
bringing it to $85
minus 10% = $76.50 per robot
I'll just call it $75 even, times 10 kits = $750 total.
------------------------------------------------------------
I was in a hurry to get the budget in.

I'd like to meet with who ever can show up tomorrow at 4 outside the SU
building regarding the budget, and getting this information into
Marvin. If this is not a good time let me know. I'd also like to
get everyone's middle initial for this form (it requires it and we
might have to make a few phone calls tomorrow).

I tried to contact Rebecca, with no luck. We really need to have a
secretary soon. I have to attend to my classes tonight and Monday
night. I will have a little time Tuesday night. Wednesday we should
have the agenda to which we can use to work out the budget. If/when
we can get this going, I have been asked to help host Robomax. This
is a big deal! I also have a guest speaker who would like to address
the club, Dan Gates. He is the "robot man" in Southern Oregon, and if
not for him I would never have been inspired to get into robots. Does
anyone have any suggestions? I have invited everyone (15 people) on
the list to join this Yahoo Group, but we only have six so far…… Time
is running out for submitting a budget. Fund raising is a lot of work!
Coop
once, we get the agenda we're going to be working on the budget on
wednesday? Ive got a lot of free time toward the end of the week but
i dont get out of class on Monday thru Thursday until 5 in the
evening. We should set up a meeting time so we can get this show on
the road. Hosting something sounds like a step in the right direction
and the speaker idea is great because it sounds like we have lots of
enthusiasm but not much experience.
We need to come up with a constitution this weekend (if possible).
Article number:
1. Name of organization: Southern Oregon University Robotics Club
2. Affiliation with other groups (local, state, national, ect.): RCC
Robotics club, Southern Oregon Robotics Society
3. Purpose, aims, functions of the organization (mission statement):
4. Membership requirements and limitations: interest in robotics
(each student must be at least a half time student at SOU)
5. Officers (title, term of office, how and when elected): President,
Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Elected at the beginning of
each year (or as needed) by majority vote.
6. Advisor: Peter Wu, Ph. D.
7. Meetings (frequency, special meetings and who calls them):
8. Quorum (number of members required to transact business): at least
3 officers (how many others?)
9. Referendum and Recall (procedures and handling):
10. Amendments (means of proposal, notice required, voting requirements):
11. Ratifications (requirements for adopting this constitution):
The officers elected are:
James A Cooper (Coop) President
Cody Mitchell Vice President
Rebecca Hamilton Secretary (voted in, but need signature)
Sam Bledsoe Treasurer
Thank you,
James A Cooper (Coop)
