And who needs any ungrateful moron who asks a question and then says crap
like that when they get the best answer. James did not come across as a
know-it-all and has always been helpful when he could. Get a clue.

I asked no question.
Maybe you should re-read the thread.

I tried to help someone and suffered

James did the crapping, all over me,
when he rudely dismissed my suggestion

These forums only work when people
feel they can contribute freely, I feel
just as indignant when they cant.

Im no ungrateful moron, like you I get
offended when I see people being treated unfairly,
and that includes myself.

I asked no question.
Maybe you should re-read the thread.

I tried to help someone and suffered
for the trouble.

James did the crapping, all over me,
when he rudely dismissed my suggestion
before making his own (as it happens
right) one.

These forums only work when people
feel they can contribute freely, I feel
just as indignant when they cant.

Im no ungrateful moron, like you I get
offended when I see people being treated unfairly,
and that includes myself.

I re-read the thread. You were correct about putting the Seagate as Master
on the secondary channel and CD-ROM as Slave.

I think that's a misunderstanding as I said in my other post... a matter of
inserting his comment where it could be taken the wrong way maybe. I doubt
any crapping on anyone was intended.

A little humor can go a long way towards pointing out when someone has
stepped on a toe. It's usually an accident.

BTW, your posts are coming as doubles and multiple postings...

This dialogs may only be helpful if you also remember to take your tablets,
if prescribed. When you say you are no expert, no one is going to give you
a bad time if you say something that needs correcting. They're going to
correct it, that's all. You benefit from this just like we all do. Oh, I
just got it... you thought James was being emphatic about you not being an
expert rather than about what was the right answer. I doubt he meant it
that way as James doesn't come across that way, but I see how you took it.

This is an intensely dull correspondence for the rest of us to sit through, Ian.
Couldn't you take up your grievance/misunderstanding with James privately? Also,
each of your recent posts has come through in multiple copies. Is your hand on
the send button so trembling with rage, or is it a systems fault?

Hi y'all

I don't know if there's anyone on this list running 3 DSP's in one box
?? Reason I ask is because soon enough I'll know how it goes, but wanted
some ahead-info from someone who knew. I have one DSP right now, 2 more
from eBay in the mail and an eBayed external clock (Mutec, I wanna sync
on coax, lightpipe and AES/EBU) also in the mail...

Goodie, goodie am I in for some configuration rodeo next few weeks..
I'll let you all know how it goes.

Where was I rude ? I pointed out that the suggestion (which presumably was
yours) that a slave device was somehow 'worse' than a master device was not
true. Sorry if the truth hurts, but unfortunately you were disseminating
informatin that just wasn't the real issue.

When did I in any manner personally attack you ? If you feel you can't
contribute just because someone has pointed out that a suggestion you made
was probably not going to help, then bad luck. If I see FUD I'll say so.
If that is a problem for you, then I suggest you are going to have a very
unhappy life. Realise the difference between attacking the idea and
attacking the person. It is one that applies in all adult behaviour.

Again, how is it unfair to explain why an idea is incorrect ?

Absolutely. That is why I specifically copied just the piece of advice that
I believe was misleading, and again specifically removed any reference to
who it was by. It was the information that needed addressing, not who it
was by.

Of course I didn't mean it that way. If I meant it that way you'd know ;-)

Anyway - no harm done, and I'm glad the person with the original problem has
it sorted. Still think he should use CDex (or some other form of ripping
software) rather than connecting up the digital cable between his CDROM and
digital IO card. That can cause other problems, particularly if you are
building projects in sample rates other than 44.1 KHz.

No - only two here, well one DSP24 & one Media 7.1. Works just fine though.

Like James Im using 2 right now (in this case both DSP24s, with C-PORT
attached).

I had a little trouble to start with, but its fine now.
I found the win98 drivers did not really support 2 cards,
so I had to upgrade to XP. Occaissionally the external links panel crashes when
I try to switch cards, but its 99% stable.

The only other issue was to understand that I needed to hook one card to the
other externally via the digital I/O to ensure that the clocks are sync'd. i.e.
I have card 1 running on internal clock and card 2 external clock.

Like James Id be interested to hear how you get on, as I am
contemplating a 3rd card myself. Im expecting lots of fun with interrupt
sharing. Good luck..

Hi I'm new to this list, but I was wondering if anyone
here knows whether there are any drivers for the DSP24
for Linux Red Hat 9???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Not tried it but apparently it is supported by
ALSA, which should work with any flavour of linux
presumably also Redhat 9.

see http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/

Hello, again. I am the person with the original problem.

I use the direct digital connection because when I'm in my office
working I am quite a bit more likely to be listening to a CD
played through my DSP 24 II than I am to be copying sound files
from CD to hard disk. On the rare occasions when I need to copy,
everything is already in place and I just do it.

I am curious, though, about your comments about "other problems".
Can you be more specific about that? I have not encountered any
problems with this setup myself.

Thanks,
Greg Berchin

The way to go is alsa drivers, but they're not included with redhat 9,
but this people did the hard job for you (compiling kernels - drivers - apps):
http://ccrma-www.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/

PlanetCCRMA it's a meta-distribution on top of various redhat versions,
using apt + rpm as installation media. They have iso images too.
What you get:
- Kernel built with low latency and preemptive patches.
- Alsa drivers
- Jack-connection-kit ( the coolest thing in linux audio, let's you
route audio paths between applications using the api).
- lots of audio and video apps.
Things to checkout for multitrack recording: ardour, envy24control,
qjackctl, audacity, etc...

And if you have setup issues to solve this guide is very helpfull:

have luck,

Understand, and figured that might be your reason, but you still don't need
to do this. Both Winamp & MS Media Player support 'on the fly' digital
extraction when playing CDs. However, you have it already set up - so not a
huge reason to change, albeit, those rare occasions of ripping will be much
quicker when done via DAE rather than 'real-time' recording. Aslo you get
the advantage that CDex & other tools will query the online music databases
& automagically name your WAV or MP3 files for you. I'm lazy enough that
that is a significant bonus.

The issue is that not all CDROM drives have particularly 'good' S/PDIF
connections - and they are only ever 44.1 KHz. Some of them may well send
out clocking information while not actually 'playing' casuing hassles when
recording projects at any other resolution than 44.1. Also, I understand
that they can cause problems if you are trying to use the 'real' digital
card IOs. You shouldn't have more than one source providing clocking info,
yet if you are trying to record say a DAT at 48Khz and have the CDROM
attached it will be sending clock at 44.1. Problem.

On many occasions when Matt & Claus have been diagnosing problems on the
STAudio web site, I have noticed them checking if the user with a problem
has the little internal digital cable connected to a CDROM drive. I figure
it's just not worth using ;-)

Hi! Got some questions.

Will the drivers that ESI is developing be all-new drivers?

Will they affect the ASIO performance?

Hi folks,

I am running SD 3.05 with Logic 5.5.1 PC. My system specs are as follows:

P4 2.4
1Gb DDR400 RAM
SATA drive x2
ST Audio DSP2000 with ADAC (10.22 drivers)
MOTU Midi Express XT Parallel
Windoze XP SP1a

Synths:

E6400 Ultra
JV2080
K2000R v3
EMU Procussion
Oberheim Matrix 6R

My problem is this; Somewhat surprisingly, if some of the posts on this board are anything to go by, SoundDiver talks to everything, all the time. No issues here. However, when editing a sound in SD, if I have Logic open (as one would do...) if I so much as breathe on a slider to edit any parameter, Logic crashes with "ASIO system error. Could not process the required data in time" message. This happens if the song is running or not It happens without *any* audio objects in Logic and even if I only have one MIDI track running, and that doesn't have to be a track of the instrument I'm editing either.

Why? How can I make it go away?

I spoke to a guy in Turnkey who said it happens with his Mac and SD but I need to know if anyone has a fix for this and if it is indeed caused by SD or my DSP card?

Thanks

jake

I know this isn't the place to ask, but I will anyway :-)

I have some vocals that I would like to sound like a megaphone.

Can anyone recommend a suitable plug-in or perhaps some settings in n-track or Cool Edit 2000.

I did record the vocal with my ADC/DAC2000 so it's not entirely off topic.

Hi Neil,

well, its somehow off topic... but i could recommend you to use synthedit...
this program gives you the possibility to create VST(i) plugins of your own.
it can be found at www.synthedit.com
to get the latest beta you should go to www.synthedit.com/beta/beta.htm

This software is shareware with a tiny fee to registrate

Cheers,
Alex

Well... Try to break down the sound in your head. What does it sound like?
It's a bit distorted I imagine, it's also lacking high and low frequencies - only very sharp midrange frequencies, and might also have a slight reverb to it. All this can be done with Cooledit's pre-made presets.

Good luck
