See the following URL for a discussion of the 780, 890 and 1280
<http://www.steves-digicams.com/2001_reviews/epson780.html>The following
are quotes from this URL.
"The main difference between the 780 and the 890 is that the 890 comes
packaged with the roll paper holder. There is no roll paper option
available for the 780 and the only Paper Source option in the print driver
is the Sheet Feeder. "
"The Epson Stylus Photo 1280 (1290 in Europe) has a wider carriage and
accepts paper stock up to 13 inches in width and 44 inches in length. All
three printers feature the same basic print engine with an amazing
4-picoliter variable size ink droplet that gives you about twice the tonal
range of any other inkjet. The 1280 (1290) uses the larger capacity T009
color cartridge. "
So the 780 is the entry level printer for home use. The 890 has a roll
paper option, and the 1280 has a wider carriage for larger prints and has a
higher capacity ink cartridges. The 200P is the deluxe model (I assume).

Hi Larry!
I'm subscribed as a digest recipient on the old list, and I'm getting
individual emails now. If I can receive digests on Yahoo, I'd prefer that!
Thanks for the help, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Agreed. Basically, my image processing methodology is
scan
prepare image for printing
downsample and rebalance/resharpen image for screen display
Print output files I generally try to keep between 200-300 dpi at the
output size I want, screen display is all based on actual pixel count not
dpi. Getting to both the screen and the printer means calibrating the
process against those output devices ... it can be a bear sometimes to
create results that view well in the wide variety of devices out there.

I have used epson hp and cannon I think epson is the best quality I
have an older stylus photo 700 and it works great with the six color
cartrige. HP has always givin me software problems And cannon seems
a bit sloppy mechanicly. I know this printer is no where near top of
the line but you can get some real nice prints and it is easy on
those expensive made out of unubtanium cartriges.
I tried an HP flatbed scanner with the film adapter YUK was the 300$
model went for the dimage II easy as pie nice results and it is
still on the default settings.
As far as printing I have found what you see on the screen is not
what you get and need to play arond with the color setings in photo
shop in the help area.

I was at heitz yesterday They had quite a few Robots there Loretta
gave me a price sheet and a smile luckly I was smart enough to take
cash and leave the plastic home they have lots of parts but she said
the majority of there work is ALPA (i am going to assume tessina's
don't break :). )
JD
Uhh..... <grin> ... I would say that you should make your decisions after
getting a basic setup going. I only went for the 1160 printer and
PiezographyBW after I had the 1270 and felt I could do better with a
dedicated system for "fine art" grade B&W rendering, I have a lot of very
nice B&W prints made with the 1270.
From everything I've seen, Epson is still well ahead of everyone else in
photographic quality printers at the consumer price point. I've played
with the Canon, HP and Lexmark units but they're just not there yet.
The printer market is moving very quickly and Epson has produced a raft of
new models in recent months. As ever, the higher priced units are
generally made better, more durable, can stand up to more use and are
probably more precise ... but it's darn hard to say looking at the website
without getting the detail technical specifications for each one what the
specific differences are. I prefer to buy the wide carriage models so that
I can do big enlargements when I want ... it's my only way of printing
nowadays short of a service bureau ... which means the two printers that
I'd be interested in are the 1280 or 2000P. There is no standard carriage
model of the 2000P, the standard carriage equivalent of the 1280 is the
890, I believe. It's a hundred bux cheaper, so if you have no plans to
print to an 11x14 or 13x19 size it's worth the savings.

I've just rediscovered submini photography with a Voigtländer Vitoret EL
I got on ebay. Thanks to listmember John Mourikis, I now have a scan of
the manual; cheers, John!
Living in the UK, I'm not really making much of a sacrifice choosing
110; my local supermarket stocks a choice of films, and the local
overnight lab can process them. But I don't have the energy to try other
formats (unless they come up really cheaply on ebay).
Stewart
(whose other camera is also a Voigtländer, but as it's a 35mm Bessa-R
rangefinder, I can't mention it here.)

Greetings everyone,
I have come accross an old enlarger with a mask for Minox size
negatives (8x11). This enlarger was not manufactured by Minox.
The mask is designed for two sizes of film, 9.5mm and 16mm :
First, there is the usual 8x11 window, with the guides to keep the
9.5mm film in front of the window; this is (quite rightly) specified
"Minox size".
In addition, there is another place, marked "16mm film", with the
appropriate guides to keep the 16mm film in front of its own window..
But this second window however looks exactly as a Minox window
(8x11) perpendicular to the film (accross the film).
It is definitely not a Minolta-type window. It really looks like
half a Minolta size, a "half 16mm".
Does any body know what camera used this negative size (if there was
ever one?).. Or was this mask built on a Monday - or whatever day the
operator at the manufacture is not fully concentrating on his task? :)
Thanks for your help,
Patrice

Gentlemen (and Ladies).
I have a favor to ask.
I'd like us to remain on AOL for a short period. Let's continue to
use the address:
Submini-L@...
for the short term. I don't want to inconvenince our Digest readers,
more than I already have :^) I will send periodic tests to the new
list, and verify when the changes have taken effect.
Thanks again for your assistance.
Larry
Folks.
Please accept my apologies - I guess any change can bring about
problems :^)
I have received an answer to my query - apparently it can take some
time for the changes I have made to take place (setting Digest,
NoMail, etc).
Sorry for the confusion - and thanks for your patience.
Larry
P.S. If the problems do not clear up shortly, I'll take further
measures.

Larry,
I, too, should be on the digest.
Thanks,

Hi Jon,
I'm trying to find out what the difficulty is. You are indeed set to
Digest. I noticed the problem also, in that one of my email
addresses - set to "NoMail" *IS* receiving mail.
I'll let you know what I find out. Sorry for the difficulty.

It's great to see the list making the transition from AOL to Yahoo, but how
do I turn off the individual postings and return to the daily digest?
