Thanks for your input Louis, I checked with Sumsung for any firmware
updates for the HL-R6157W and they just listed a download for the
user manual. My cableing is all HDMI except for a digital sound out
to my Theater Surround system. So I guess my next step is to borrow a
HD/Blue-Ray player and see what happens, if it works then the problem
is in my iScan vp50 processor which is curent model. Again thanks for
your help. If anyone else is having the same problem please contact
me and I'll try and help sort this problem out.

Does anyone know if Samsung makes a 40" DLP screen?
If so, speak out and let me know. Are there technical reasons why they
don't?

You might want to check with Samsung to see if there are any firmware updates available for your model. Older DVDO processors would only upconvert 480i output to 480p, and HD was simply passed through. The best way to find out if your model TV is capable of handling 1080p sources directly is to borrow an HD (HD or Blu-Ray) player and feed 1080p sources directly. Also, make sure that your TV supports HDMI sources, as most TV's capable of inputting 1080p directly will do it only with HDMI sources, not component!

I have a two year old Samsung 61" DLP that was sold as a 1080p unit,
but it won't input an 1080p signal, only 1080i. I have to set my DVDO
iScan vp50 video processor on 1080i output, the monitor then has to up
convert to 1080p and that causes some image loss. So I guess the unit
really wasn't truely 1080p? I'm not a happy camper! Any input or
suggestions?

Hi my name is Sean and I live on the sunshine coast in Australia.

I have a Samsung 40" La40N81bd Model lcd hd-tv and I works fine
except when I use a Playstation 3 I recently bought.

When I use the playstation in hi-def mode the menu flickers
constantly and drops out occasionally. This is very irritating.

When I run most games and play blu-ray discs there is absolutely no
problem and the picture is always fine. One game I have used though
flickers and drops out constantly like the menu so it is unplayable.

I took the ps3 back and replaced it with a new one and I have exactly
the same issues.

I have an x-box 360 as well (I like games) and I have no issues with
that on the tv.

I don't know if this is a hardware problem or some issue with
compatability or what?

If any one has any advice of info. to offer I would be most grateful
as I am uncertain of what to do.

I recently bought a Samsung LE32R83BX LCD TV which I am really
impressed with and so as an early Christmas present to myself I bought
the Samsung HTX200R Home Cinema which I connected via HDMI cable.

This sounds great with DVD's and playing music CD's, however when I
watch the TV the sound will not go through the Home Cinema, which is a
hell of a waste. Am I being REALLY stupid and not set it up right? Is
something missing? Please help.

Also I've just bought myself a Post Christmas present in the form of a
Playstation3. What's the best way of connecting that?

Many Thanks in advance,

Mark.

Generally, on most r/p's, the bottom speaker grille either pops off or is screwed on. This usually has to come off first. The screen is usually screwed on from the bottom and in the rear. Should you do decide to attempt removal of the screen, make sure you TRACK where each screw goes, and do not force anything unless you know. You can attempt to purchase the service liteature. It is, by far, the best place to go on safe disassembly instructions. Louis. . .

The external surface of the Texas Instruments DLP chips is pretty durable, with a hard glass cover over the mirrors, which are sealed inside, so unless fairly EXTREME force is applied, it is unlikely that normal handeling, or cleaning with <100 P.S.I. air will hurt the chip, but you DO need to be careful of the fragile, spinning color wheel, as it can be broken fairly easily, if mishandled.-Bob C.

How do you know if there is dust on the DLP chip? There is the possibility that the DLP chip itself may be defective. I do not know how delicate the DLP chip is and whether the force of the airstream from the blower may be a hazard to the DLP chip. I would leave this up to a service technician. Louis. . .

NOW you see why  do NOT like "DLP" video devices!  I have a DLP projector, it has vertical black lines in the video, I found it impossible to get a replacement DLP chip from TEXAS INSTRUMENTS or the projector manufacturer, for a reasonable price!  The mirrors CANNOT be cleaned, as they are sealed inside the chip. If you are LUCKY, and do not have chip failure, but only dust on an optical surface, yes, compressed air may clear it off. Do NOT use chemicals, unless approved by your set manufacturer, as many can attack plastics inside. When operating projection units, avoid dust-making activities, spraying chemicals (air freshener included!) or smoke making near the set, as the cooling fan will draw these contaminating substances inside! Turn it OFF before sweeping/vacuuming, cleaning the fireplace, etc.--I bought a LCD projector to replace my defective DLP unit, as I CAN get LCD parts reasonably, although it has been trouble-free. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS seems to be the only manufacturer of the DLP/DMD chips used in the video projectors/TV sets, and they are very paranoid about selling them, to the point of making repair parts very EXPENSIVE and difficult to obtain, as I was quoted a repair cost greater than the $2,300.00 that I paid for my new projector! (you SHOULD be able to buy a DLP chip for $500.00 or less)-No DLP for me!--Bob Curry

Does your hdmi connection loose audio very often, I am curious if it
is the cable or the set top box. THe connection is from the box
straight to the tv.

I had an 46 inch DLP bought three years ago and it was a piece of
junk. After the bulb blew four time in three years, I was able to
relpace it with a 46 inch 1080p LCD on an extended Circuit City
warranty.

The 46 inch 1080p is a great TV so much so that I bought a 40 inch
for the bedroom.

The DirecTV remote is a free gift. Suggest you buy a
Universal Theater Master MX850 or better. It can be
programmed via PC and the Universal software to do
exactly what you want.

Typical cost is $499 plus $250 for the RF repeater to
allow components to operate behind closed doors.

The DirecTV remote is not that sophisticated. If it
runs everything you need, great. But it is not
capable of automated macros beyond TV and the DirecTV
receiver.

Personally, I think 5' is too high. Don't forget, that will put the
top of your TV at about 8'. My wife and I had to make a decision
concerning our TV in our new townhouse recently. A lot of people on
our street had their TVs in the space above their fireplaces in the
corner of the living room. We chose not to do that because of 1. the
TV being in the corner dictated how the room had to be oriented and
2. the height of the TV. Most likely you will only be about 10' to
15' away from the TV and at 61/2' to 7' I believe the viewing will be
too high. Just my opinion. One suggestion is to cut out a cardboard
template and put about where the TV would be and see how you think
that will look. Make sure you judge it from where you will be
sitting. Good luck to you.

Hello everyone. This is my first post to this group. I have recently
purchased a new Samsung 40" LCD HDTV, and simply love it. My digital
provider is Direct TV with HD DVR. Having made that tremendous leap I
didn't want to short myself on sound, so, I purchased a Samsung
Surround Sound DVD Player/Receiver with wireless rear speakers. My
only problem is trying to set everything up where my Direct TV remote
will turn everything on and off. I can get it to do that but when I do
it resets the Surround Sound unit to default back to the TV.
Consequently, all I get is the TV speakers. I now have everything set
up where I have to use the Surround Sound remote to turn the sound on
and the Direct TV remote to turn on the TV and Digital receiver. Has
anyone else had a similar problem, and if so, were you able to resolve
it?

Hi All,

This is a reason NOT to use HDMI but to use component
video. The ONLY place HDMI is necessary is if you
have HD-DVD or Blu-Ray on a 1080p TV and want to see
the 1080p image. Otherwise component cables will give
you the same quality picture without the silly wait
for handshaking. You'll find that pictures appear
right away when switching inputs.

I've heard about this kind of problem, but never with a Samsung TV.

Do you actually have to remove the power cord from both units, or is it
sufficient to turn them off via remote?

I would have thought that turning the DVD player off then on again, without
unplugging anything, would be enough to cause the TV to recognize that
interface. Likewise unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging it back in without
turning anything off. But those are so simple I'm sure you must have tried them.

Are both the DVD and the TV at the same HDMI revision level? Maybe you need to
call for service and have the firmware in one or the other upgraded. Maybe you
need that anyway, even if they _claim_ to be the same level... ;-)

For what it is worth, I have not had that kind of problem with my somewhat older
Samsung DLP TV (HL-S6188W), used with either a Sony upconverting DVD player or a
Sony Playstation 3 as HDMI sources.

I seem to have problems with my HDMI DVD player and the DLP TV.

I connect my systems via Monster HDMI cable that support 1.3a spec.

Often my the Samsung TV would refuse to recognize the Samsung DVD
player. So far the ONLY resort I have had is unplug the HDMI cable
from both the TV and DVD, remove the power cable from both the
systems, wait for 30 secs, power on the TV and the DVD player (let
them boot up) later connect the HDMI cable and than everything would
run great. The pictures are great.

The frustration is that I have to navigate behond the tv and dvd to
pull teh cables out and put them back and when I am not around my
family members will curse the DVD player as they cannot reset the
system.

Is anybody also having similar problems is there are solution from
Samsung to this problem.

Thanks for the welcome. I am 30 months retired. As my gift to myself 18 months
ago in
light of having time I wasn't used to having, I decided to buy a Big Screen
HDTV. I did a
great deal of online research and spent many hours looking at the various
brands, types
and models at Best Buy, and others, before deciding on a Samsung HLS4266 WX/XAA.
I
know that is not big by todays standards, but it was a huge step to me coming
from a 24"
CRT, though it was nearly new.

I am very happy with the set and the picture. I signed up for DTV, being in a
very rural
area with a very limited cable service. After a year of DTV, I got to reading
about OTA
options and decided to buy a small ChannelMaster. I chose a 4-section bowtie UHF
antenna as a result of information at antennaweb.org, and solidsignal.com. I
found I could
get over 20 channels OTA for free, so cancelled DTV. After 3-4 months of OTA
only, I
decided, with winter coming, to reconnect DTV and all their new HD channels. I
feed the
OTA through the DTV Tuner and find it satisfactory. I am saving for a Toshiba
HDDVD and
hope to have it by Christmas and switch my Netflix service to HD instead of SD.

I have also joined HDTVMagazine.com, a very good source for technical
information on
this/these
topic/s. I have found a lot of useful informatin there and hope to find this
Samsung group
a source for mostly Samsung user information and experience.
