Job Description:
Transcon Environmental, a growing environmental consulting firm, needs one archaeological field technician on a temporary, as-needed basis (project based).
 
Candidates should have some coursework in archaeology at the University level. In addition, previous field experience in the Southwestern United States is preferred. Project activities may include conducting archaeological testing and data recovery excavations and performing field survey. Preference will be given to applicants who have previous experience monitoring construction projects and drawing plan profiles. Other responsibilities may include office activities, such as report preparation, background literature research, and providing support for multi-disciplinary senior staff. Experience working with maps (topos, etc.) and word processing software is desired.
 
This position is open until filled. The main Transcon office is located in Mesa, Arizona. Transcon specializes in environmental planning and analysis on projects throughout the western United States.
 
Applicants should be physically fit for walking 5-10 miles per day in rugged terrain where temperatures often reach above 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, applicants should be able to lift loads weighing up to 30 pounds. Employees may be asked to work more than 40 hours per week and 10 or more hours per day and to work up to 10 consecutive days away from home. Transcon does pay for overtime.  However, Transcon does not guarantee 40 hours per week as the position is project need based.  Travel will be provided for from the Mesa, Arizona office to the project site.  Applicant must have their own transportation to the Mesa office location and have a clean driving record in order to drive the company vehicles in the field if needed.  Housing is only provided for out of town stay and not provided for between projects or for work near the Phoenix Metro area.  Transcon does not pay per diem, but does reimburse receipts for food while traveling.  Transcon prefers applicants that live in or near the Phoenix Metro area, but will consider anyone who can secure their own housing and travel arrangements between projects or on days off.
 
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
