Archaeology Field Director/Project Manager
My client is a small, veteran-owned environmental consulting firm
with offices in Littleton, Meeker, and Grand Junction Colorado and
Vernal and Moab Utah. They are in search of an Archaeology Field
Director/Project Manager to manage all aspects of cultural resource
clearance projects for a wide variety of private, federal, state, and
local government clients throughout the Rocky Mountain Region.
The ideal candidate for this position meets the required
qualifications described below, is visionary and is excited about an
opportunity to shape the future of the organization's cultural
resource management program in collaboration with other project
managers and upper management.
Required knowledge and skills:
• Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or related
discipline, preferably with an emphasis in the cultural resources of
Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming.
• Must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional
Qualifications Standards for Archaeology or History.
• Demonstrated expertise in the application and interpretation
of Section 106 of the NHPA and other state (especially Colorado,
Utah, and Wyoming) and federal laws, regulations, and procedures
related to cultural resources, specifically including NAGPRA and
ARPA.
• Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible cultural
resources duties in a consulting environment to include effective
supervision of field staff and overall project management from start
to finish.
• Presently holds or is able to obtain necessary permits (i.e.,
PI/Field Supervisor) to conduct archaeological inventory on state and
federal lands.
• Strong technical writing skills and experience managing the
preparation of cultural resource inventory reports to be submitted to
agency archaeologists.
• Demonstrated effectiveness with performing Business
Development activities to include sales calls, preparing proposals,
budget management, research designs, work schedules, and technical
reports.
• Problem solving, organizational, and strong interpersonal
communication skills.
• Knowledge of Native American and historic Euro-American
cultures of the Rocky Mountain Region.
• Knowledge of field, laboratory, and office standards required
to execute cultural resource projects from start to finish.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with colleagues, community members, government
officials, clients, and the general public.
• Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position.
• Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Physical and Drug Testing.
Additional desired qualifications/skills include:
• Previous NEPA experience, including experience conducting
Impact Assessments of Project Alternatives on Cultural Resources.
• Strong navigational skills using topographic maps, a compass,
and GPS.
• Experience in the operation of 4x4 trucks, trailer towing,
and all-terrain vehicle operation.
• Familiarity with GIS and/or mapping software.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
