IMMEDIATE ARCHEOLOGICAL FIELDWORK OPPORTUNITIES

The Office of Contract Archeology, University of New Mexico has immediate
openings for qualified Archeology Crew Member and Archeologist (Crew Chief)
positions for survey and excavation fieldwork on different projects in New
Mexico and southern Colorado. New Mexico project areas are located in the
southwest (including Bootheel), southeast, central, and northwest regions.
Fieldwork is ongoing, and will continue into spring of 2009, with the
possibility of subsequent laboratory and analysis work.
Candidates for Archeology Crew Member positions must have 12 months
archeological excavation or survey experience (Southwest experience preferred)
or equivalent education (B.A./B.S. in Anthropology); candidates for Archeologist
(Crew Chief) positions must have a B.A./B.S. degree in Anthropology, 12 months
previous experience as a crew leader, and qualify as a field supervisor in at
least one of the New Mexico BLM permit areas (SE, SW, NE, NW, or Dinetah).
Salary is dependent upon education and experience above the minimum
requirements, and ranges from $12.00 - $14.03 per hour for Archeology Crew
Member, and from $14.03 - $18.00 per hour for Archeologist (Crew Chief).
IMPORTANT NOTE: An official transcript must be provided to document education
for Archeologist applicants, and to qualify for salary rates above the minimum
for Archeology Crew Member applicants. Education above High School can be
counted as experience.
The Office of Contract Archeology is a University of New Mexico affiliated firm
with over 35 years of experience in all facets of cultural resources management
throughout New Mexico and adjacent states. A division of the UNM Maxwell Museum
of Anthropology with offices on the UNM campus, OCA has taken a lead role in
implementing high quality, innovative archeological, ethnographic, and
historical research in the performance of contracts for the private sector,
federal agencies, state agencies, and local communities.
