This is your friendly monthly reminder to encourage firms posting to this list
to include at the minimum a salary range for posted positions.  If advertising
for hourly work a clear description of the hourly rate + per diem rates (if
offered) is greatly appreciated.

I have not yet elected to delete postings without wages, in particular because
some firms HR divisions do not allow this.  However I would strongly encourage
you to ask your HR for a variance to allow you to include wages.  No one is
going to put you out of business by seeing what your salaries are, and heck, if
the guys in the next state are paying better, you can use that for an excuse to
ask for a raise!

The American Research Center in Egypt, Inc. (ARCE) seeks three individuals for positions of staff archaeologist on an upcoming Field School in Egypt.  The Field School is a joint project between the Supreme Council for Antiquities (SCA) and ARCE under a subgrant of the Egyptian Antiquities Project (EAP) and is designed to give SCA inspectors the opportunity to expand and perfect their skills in archaeological excavation.  The field school will be in session five weeks at the site of Memphis between late February and early April 2003.

A staff archaeologist, working as part of a team with a SCA staff archaeologist, will be responsible for supervising the work of six Egyptian inspectors in partnership with an Egyptian supervisor.  The archaeologist will be responsible for making sure that the records for each excavation unit are complete and up-to-date, that analysis of the material from the unit is finished, and assist inspectors with excavation.  A staff archaeologist will also be required to submit a final report on the work under their direction.  The archaeologist will be required to give one or two lectures on some aspect of field archaeology at classes held during the field season.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must hold a M.A. or Ph.D. in archaeology/anthropology, have attended at least one formal field school program, and have spent at least one and preferably two or more seasons in Egypt.  Preference will be given to those archaeologists with experience in settlement archaeology.  Individuals with knowledge of Pharaonic Egypt and possessing a specific methodological skill (faunal analysis, lithic analysis, computer applications in archaeology) will be given first consideration.  Anyone with strong skills in survey and mapping, and familiar with a Topcon GTS-303 electric total station is encouraged to apply.  Applicants must have a desire to share their expertise, have good communication skills, and possess a definite interest in working with SCA members.  Flexibility and patience are essential requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must be able to demonstrate training and background in the specialty for which they apply and must have spent at least one and preferably two or more seasons in Egypt.  Applicants must have a desire to share their expertise, have good communication skills, and possess a definite interest in working with SCA members and working in a group situation.  Flexibility and patience are essential requirements.  Appointees will be required to give a lecture to the participants on the specialty for which they were hired.

archaeological site file, the National Archaeological Database
Bibliography for Alabama, and the Museum's Human Osteology

The Cultural Resource Division of The Louis Berger Group, Inc., (Berger)

For this position, we seek a highly motivated individual to pursue
quality historical architectural research in a cultural resource
management context.  Responsibilities include: historic research,
architectural resource field survey, NRHP evaluations, effects
assessments pursuant to 36 CFR 800, HABS/HAER documentation, and report
writing.



M.A. in Architectural History, History or Historic Preservation plus
excellent research and writing skills are required. At least five years
professional experience in field survey and National Register evaluation

compliance, and the ability to use a 35 mm camera are required.
Mid-Atlantic or Southeastern experience and experience in interpretation
and evaluation of engineering/ industrial resources highly desirable.



A preferred candidate will have working familiarity with Federal laws,

Ability to communicate directly with a variety of clients in the public
and private sector is a necessity as is the ability to work both on own
initiative and as part of a team with other cultural resource

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is hiring an
architectural historian to complete a cultural resource team for the
Southeast Service Region, to be based in District 8-0 offices in
Harrisburg.
Individuals in a regional position will have unparalleled opportunities
and
responsibilities to shape the direction and performance of cultural
resource
investigations conducted on the Departmentís 1.5 billion annual design
and
construction program.

The eleven PennDOT Engineering Districts have been grouped into five
service
regions.  Each region will have a team comprised of an archaeologist and

starting early in project design, working holistically on all cultural
resource issues related to a project, and participate interactively

design team of project engineers, designers, and environmental

Southeast Region consists of Districts 5-0 (Allentown) and 8-0

Each regional position is located in a PennDOT District Office, under the
guidance of the District Environmental Manager.

Minimum experience and training required for this job is: two or more
years
of experience working on an architectural survey, an architectural
restoration and preservation project or program, and a bachelorís degree
in
architectural history, American history, art history or course work in
Pennsylvania history.  Or, any equivalent combination of experience and
training.  Pennsylvania residency requirement is waived.

Preference will be given to applicants who meet the professional
qualification standards in architectural history, defined under the
Secretary of Interior Standards and to candidates who have knowledge and
understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

Salary range is $37,360 ñ $56,763.  There is an excellent benefits

This is your friendly monthly reminder to encourage firms posting to this list
to include at the minimum a salary range for posted positions.  If advertising
for hourly work a clear description of the hourly rate + per diem rates (if
offered) is greatly appreciated.

I have not yet elected to delete postings without wages, in particular because
some firms HR divisions do not allow this.  However I would strongly encourage
you to ask your HR for a variance to allow you to include wages.  No one is
going to put you out of business by seeing what your salaries are, and heck, if
the guys in the next state are paying better, you can use that for an excuse to
ask for a raise!
