Subject: NEWS ALERT - Advisory Council Regs still in effect!!
Message-ID: <c6.cc08944.27323762@...>

NEWS ALERT

Nellie Longsworth, ACRA's Government Relations Consultant, has informed ACRA
Advisory Council has decided NOT to suspend the 36 CFR 800 Regulations
because of the great concern expressed by the Preservation Community against
the suspension.

More information will follow when it is available.

Note from R. Joe  - For those of you who have not been following this closely the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation http://www.achp.gov/  had proposed to suspend 35 CFR 800 regs.  If this were to happen it could (hypothetically) have very serious repercussions in the CRM world.  I won't bore you with details but I do encourage you to visit the web sites above and read a bit more about these issues.  And just as important talk to your bosses and crew about this and get your company involved and aware.  It is extremely important to be aware of these laws, and what shape they are in as this directly effects your career in CRM within the US.

Best,

R. Joe

Hi folks, I haven't kept up to date on the wage laws, but last time I worked
down at Fort Polk, LA the crews were getting paid prevailing wages, which in
1997 started at around $13/hr.

Especially for you newbies: please ask whether or not you are entitled to
prevailing wages and why before accepting a project. Some CRM firms,
Panamerican in particular, are recognized and repeated violators of
prevailing wage regulations.

And don't expect the UAFT to come to your defense, unless litigation proves
lucrative to them!

Hello all.

I have received numerous queries from potential list subscribers in the last month regarding their subscription to the list as being "pending".  This appears to be a snafu that crops up periodically on the egroups server and unfortunately I am never aware of it until people begin making noise, and as the subscription base continues to increase by 10-15 archaeologists a day it is not noticeable that there is a "drop" in subscription.  The bottom line is if you are on a project and you know one of your colleagues was trying to sign up and they are continuing to have problems have them drop me a note with the subject "ADD TO SHOVELBUMS" and I will force add them to the list.  Please do suggest they have the subject in place as I receive 40-50 e-mail a day and organization is the only thing keeping my sanity.  They can e-mail me at rjoe@...

FYI at the current rate of growth it looks like Shovelbums should hit 3,000 in 2,000.  Thanks for all your help in promoting this service.  Also there has been enough revenue generated via the books.shovelbums.org link (something like $50 or so) that we will be able to turn off the forced advertising within the job announcements and possibly do a post card mailing to firms and universiies with the web address for posting.  Time will tell.  Thanks for your support.

Dig warm,

R. Joe Brandon
PS if anyone knows the whereabouts' of Anton Hoffman, have him drop me an e-mail.
