Stell Environmental Enterprises, Inc. has immediate openings for two (2) mid level Archaeologist in support of the Yakima Training Center Cultural Resource Management Program in Yakima, WA. 

This project is full time for approximately 9-12 months. 

 

Project start date is 12OCT10. 

 

The hourly rate will be dependant upon experience.

Full time Employees receive a full benefit package to include:

Outside of field and site testing, telecommuting with a company provided laptop is required. 

No per diem will be provided. 

Potential candidates must be able to gain access a military installation.

 

Requirements:
Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience – some directly in Yakima and Kittas Counties, WA is preferred. 

GIS spatial and meta data experience

Phase I survey

Phase IIa and IIb experience

Experience using a Trimble unit, and ArchGIS software

Excellent written and oral communications

Field supervision during March 11 field season of 4 field technicians

 

Educational Requirements:
B.S. degree in science related field (Anthropology, Archaeology, Natural Resources, etc.)
Must have demonstrated report writing, leadership and communication skills.

 

Applicants must be physically fit and willing to work in challenging conditions.   

Camping on the installation may be a requirement.

The Reno office of MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc. is looking for Archaeological field technicians for survey and excavation work in northern NV and CA near Mammoth for 6-8 weeks (October-November), depending on weather.  Camping may be involved.  Local archaeologists are preferred.  The start date would be in approximately one week.  There may be potential for office work in Reno for reports, site forms, maps, data analysis following the fieldwork.  Technicians will be paid between $12 and $20/hr depending on experience, with Per Diem during fieldwork.

Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology.

·         At least 6 months experience conducting archaeological fieldwork in Nevada or Eastern California.

Collections Manager and Curator position (Research Associate II Special) available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands, to be assigned at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Position is contingent on funding for collections management and curation support for the Cultural Resources Program at Fort Campbell. This appointment is a 12 month appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BS/BA degree in Museum Studies, Anthropology, or a closely related field of study, and a minimum of four years of full-time professional experience applying the theories, methods, and practices of curation that enables professional judgments to be made about the identification, evaluation, documentation, preventive care, or interpretation of collections associated with historic and prehistoric properties in the southeastern United States. 1) Maintaining physical security and control of access; 2) Accession procedures and standards, including language appropriate for inclusion in third party contracts that produce materials to add to the collection; 3) Emergency action plans for fire, flood, tornado, earthquake, and other foreseeable risk situations; 4) Access and use by qualified researchers; 5) Use of the collection for educational purposes.
Report on the current state of the collection with respect to the standards set forth in 36 CFR 79 and other pertinent guidance. Assess the need for conservation treatments to preserve any items or records in the collection, and project conservation needs that may be needed for the next ten years. Provide conservation treatments that do not require procurement of special equipment or materials. Assess the potential for off-post curation, including a consideration of the relative costs and benefits to the installation of each option. Make other recommendations pertinent to maintaining proper care of collections and records of the installation in accord with ARPA, DA policies, and other legal authorities applicable to maintaining long-term records and collections at the installation. Other related tasks as may be assigned by the cultural resources program manager or coordinator.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Range $39,000-$41,000

The work is in NC / KY / VT / VA and will start next as early as week.  I am currently staffing a four week Prehistoric Phase III located in Western NC that starts next week.  Previous prehistoric Phase III experience is required for this job.  I am also currently looking for one or two field archaeologists to work in VT.  The work in KY and VA is forthcoming. This work will most likely lead to more work throughout the region or the possibility to go work on one of Berger’s projects in other regions. Housing and per-diem will be provided and when possible, the hotels will be direct billed to the company. Mileage and travel time compensation is available.

Candidates for Archeology Crew Member positions must have 12 months
archeological excavation or survey experience (Southwest experience preferred)

previous experience as a crew leader, and qualify as a field supervisor in at
least one of the New Mexico BLM permit areas (SE, SW, NE, NW, or Dinetah).

Salary is dependent upon education and experience above the minimum
requirements, beginning at $12.00 per hour for Archeology Crew Member, and at
$14.03 per hour for Archeologist (Crew Chief).

(SRI), a multidisciplinary cultural resources consulting firm, has two temporary full-time, hourly positions available for archaeological field technicians for an upcoming archaeological testing project in Riverside County, California. Qualified candidates should possess, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and have completed an accredited archaeological field school.  Candidates must also have a minimum of 1–2 years of field experience working on testing and data recovery projects (preferably in southern California) and able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (i.e., extreme heat).  Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks.  Prior experience excavating prehistoric lithic sites will be viewed favorably.

 

The pay rate or this position is $12.00 per hour.  Food allowance and lodging are not being offered for this project, and field crew must report to the project area daily.

 

Job Description:

 

Reporting to the Project Director and Crew Chief, Archaeological Field Technicians are responsible for conducting reconnaissance survey, the establishment of grids, artifact collection, test unit and feature excavation, and documentation.  To this end, archaeological field technicians are required to perform the following tasks in the field:

 

  • Conduct archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery
  • Draw features in plan and profile that conform to SRI mapping conventions
  • Clean and straighten the walls of a test unit or trench
  • Complete field forms accurately and concisely
  • Properly label collection bags and samples
  • Must be able to lift up to 40lbs

 

Field work is tentatively scheduled to begin in late October 2010 and will last approximately 2 weeks.
