Hi,
I'm looking for a good and reliable ambient light sensor device.
May be 4 units.
It will be perfect with an ethernet interface to poll with Medialon manager.
Serial rs485 is too a good option

Someone has experience with this matter?

Thank you!

Are you looking for an RS-232 readout of the current light level, or
just an on/off for light/dark?

There are sensors tuned to respond like the human eye and others that
respond to specific wavelengths.

Yes, I need to get lux levels.
Near sensibility to human eye will do the programming task easier
I need to compensate a strong side natural light, who fades during the day, with
artificial light in an subtle manner.

I don't know of any direct off the shelf but there probably are some.
If you can't find anything and need several, we could make them for you
with your choice of output (RS-232, USB, etc.).

Hi Joan, try with this toys in www.infusionsystems.com. They have lots of
different sensors and actuators via USB communication. I think there is no
problem to use it with Medialon.

These sensors are used for "Daylight Harvesting" in Building Management
Systems. Usually a continuous output of 0-500ua or more commonly a high level
signal of 0-10VDC is transmitted from the sensor.
Most controllers in any industry will accept a 0-10VDC analog input.

The most popular sensors are manufactured by Lutron or Corelite.
These usually are used with their proprietary lighting control systems.
Dimming ballasts for lighting fixtures are available that will directly
(inversely) respond to the 0-10VDC signal level.

Sensorswitch has a sensor that is unbundled and gives 0-10VDC signal output.
http://www.sensorswitch.com/DataSheets/CMB-ADC.pdf

Northlight Systems makes an 8 channel 0-10VDC input to 8 channel DMX-512 output
with or without merge capability for under $100.00.
http://home.att.net/~northlightsystems/dmx512encoder.htm

Synapse Wireless has wireless mesh network boards that take 0-10VDC inputs and
transmit wirelessly to an ethernet or RS-232/485 front end.

You might try gearsource.com. We have about a dozen 7400's listed with them and
had 2 possible sales that fell through, but at least people were looking at the
site for them. Ours are very beat up. YOu might have better luck with a newer

The local Craigslist is not doing me well. The equipment is a Pioneer

We have Windows software that does exactly this. It's called MIDI-Serial and is
one of the E-Show suite of tools which you can download and demo for 1/2 hour at
a time. On our downloads page:

Enjoy!

Hi Dave,

I made some custom units that were performing RS232 / MIDI bidirectional
conversion (the module was even described some time ago in the Elektor
magazine)
I designed it to allow MIDI control via standard RS232 ports on laptops
and avoid USB related problems (when MIDI class was far some stable)

How many units would you need ?
If it's only a very few, I can still made some of them.

Hi,

if you are looking for a hardware box that does the baud rate conversion between
Midi and serial lines you might want to look at the following box:

http://www.cinetix.de/interface/english/midiser.htm

It costs around 230 Euros, so roughly $300.

Cheers

That is along the lines of what I was searching for. Because of the system we
are using it in, we do need a hardware solution. My biggest concern was the
buffering of data to make sure that in the baud rate conversion process it could
handle passing all of the level changes along without dropping some data due to
buffer overflows (the problem we have with our current hardware solution).

We had a number of clients that needed multi-bit streaming for a video page.
This page must look like the website and not a typical video. We hunted and
hunted and came up empty. To make a long story short we developed a page (full
screen) that will deliver 150 kilobytes and up. Our player pings constantly and
will change the delivery rate on the fly without interrupting the video feed.
Our steaming does not BUFFER and is not progressive.
We are offering to provide this technology for other web and video companys. We
will stay in the background and not interfere with your relationship with your
client. Give us your video and we will design the player or players. One other
benefit is that we can play video on video which opens up many more
opportunities.
Give us a call at 941-869-6422 or email actionscript7@...
Here is an example of a video page. We did the opening and the clients web

Infections, in Linux?

BTW, made a small error cloning our server disk and have to start over.
It takes a couple of hours in fast mode to copy the hard disk and we
have to be off-line all that time, so anyone getting dead air, please
try back.

Well, not likely. {^_-} I presume you take the standard 'ix precautions
of not running any more services than absolutely needed and closing
everything at the firewall except the very few things you need exposed.
(SSH is a heavily attacked protocol here. Uncommon ssh port or a clever
iptables rule to stop allowing more login attempts from a given address
than one per several minutes turns the trick.

Since I do check mail from here and a couple of such things, there's
probably a couple of services I don't actually need.

Exactly one open port to the outside world, 80. I don't trust anyone.

Most manufacturers aren't interested in odd shapes at the moment. I
