Perhaps the test should cover the basics of control gear in HMI fixtures,
although it's probably beyond the scope of the test to train individuals in
full component level maintenance. That takes time and experience.
One of the most important areas of location work in my opinion is proper use
of a ground rod at the generator truck. That in itself is a bit of a hot
potato in the movie industry as it's requirements vary from state to state
and union to union. (Including areas they don't use a ground rod at all.)
A truly dedicated ETCP module for the film industry would have to include:-
Basics on light sources and their control gear.
Power distribution. (Interconnection of standard modules and distance to
cable size guidance)
Generator safety. (GFI/RCD settings, correct sequence of Power Loc on three
phase and local earthing.)
Mains tie in safety. (Lot of "hero's" out there with no concept of the
consequences of high current shorts.)
Lamp safety. (Otherwise known as... How to pick bits of glass out of
melted costumes.)
