Subject: [EntertainmentElectricity] RE: ETCP Certification

I’m not planning on taking the test, but it’s not because I think the test
is invalid. In fact, I think the certification program is very worthwhile
and long overdue.

I’m employed full-time and when I proposed using the electrician and rigger
certification programs to increase safety at work my employer put up the
expected resistance to the idea. They are concerned about:

1) The up-front costs of taking the test

2) The time involved in educating and training employees
preparing for the test

3) The possibility of employees wanting a higher salary after
they are certified

4) The elimination of our eligible on-call employee pool
because none of the freelancers are certified

5) The challenge of what to do with employees that attempt the
test but don’t pass

6) The challenge of what to do with employees that don’t want
to take the test

In my opinion, these are all human resources issues that could be easily
resolved with a well-formed proposal supported by hard evidence. Has
anybody put something like this together that would be willing to share it
with me?

-Doug

So, now that we're all wound up on 120V mic cable, I would like to ask
a question of the group:

Who's taken the ETCP exam and who's planning to?

If you're not planning to, please share your thoughts.

What do you all think of the ETCP program?

Full disclosure: I'm an ETCP Certified Electrician and an ETCP
Recognized Trainer. I'm a big supporter of the program, and I'd like
to hear what others think.

Thanks!

Steve Terry
