Description

Simply Solar - easy to build, solar panel e-mail group.

I love to brainstorm solar project ideas! Solar is great for the environment, saves money and most of all it is a lot of fun! It makes great common sense to take advantage of the free heat and energy that the sun provides every day.

In addition, this is a very fun hobby! It turns out that there are other folks like me who also enjoy brainstorming, thinking outside the box, sharing ideas and learning from each other's solar experiments, and that has led to this e-mail group.

SimplySolar is about brainstorming and sharing ways to implement solar heat in easy ways that the average homeowner, who may not be much of a "do-it-yourselfer" (like me), can use to put money back in their pockets, green back in the environment and have a lot of fun along the way! Hot air and water systems are the easiest so they naturally get the most focus, but discussion of PV solar electric systems is fine too.

We also like to incorporate neighborhood friendly designs. Solar systems can be installed in very stealthy, "low profile" ways that your neighbors won't even notice. I'm getting great results from my solar hot air collector project. It sits on the ground, is only 13 inches high and is well hidden by shrubs! You'll find all the information that you need to build the systems I installed here:

http://www.n3fjp.com/solar/

The purpose of this group is to share the fun and provide support for others who would like to brainstorm, design and install solar collector systems that are easy and inexpensive to build, installed in neighborhood friendly ways and work well. Whether we discover some new ideas or rediscover some old ones, finding ways to make solar easy, practical, inexpensive and fun for everyone is what we are all about! If this excites you, please join us here at SimplySolar now!

I've set the membership of the group to require approval to keep out spammers, but all are welcome!

Scott. Are the perimeter and overlaps of the SunTuf sealed with silicone? Should the collector be air tight? Anthony ~ W8AF

Re: Soldering 101 - D [SimplySolar] [Solder Copper Pipe Phobia]
I believe that thinning flux has solder dust in it so it wets the joint from the inside out. That can help the solder flow into the joint but, as I understand
