Description
The Southern Nights Astronomical League of Florida provides a one-stop resource to astronomy in Florida.
Special astronomical events, education, research, astronomical organizations, planetaria, observatories, space programs and more, can be found in the Southern Nights Bookmarks and Calendar sections...not only for Southern Nights members, but the general public and tourists as well.
Southern Nights provides a forum for all Florida astronomical organizations, planetaria, observatories, and educators to coordinate and promote astronomy, astronomical events and light pollution abatement efforts within the State of Florida, so that needless dupication of efforts and potential conflicting event schedules might be avoided.
Finally, Southern Nights will provide a forum for members to learn from the success and mistakes of other members and organizations, and to keep informed about other astronomical events and programs available in Florida.
At present, the Southern Nights Astronomical League of Florida is an informal organization, without a formal charter, officers or dues. In the future, members may elect to change this status into a formally incorporated organization if it is believed by the majority of members that this step would better serve the promotion of astronomy within the State of Florida.
Membership is now open to anyone due to recent changes in YahooGroups access rules. This group is unmoderated and messages are not screened. Only Southern Nights members may post messages and access the database, polls and chats. Flaming or spamming will result in termination of membership.
ALL Light Pollution Abatement information has been moved to our Southern Night-Sky Restoration Project site (a link is at the bottom of this page.)
