Comet Garradd, C/2009 P1 is now a morning comet on its way back into space.

The comet is in Draco and is about 9 deg. almost due N of Kochab in UMi, at
approx. 12:30 o'clock.

I was out imaging it earlier this year when it was in Hercules. I'm guessing
mag 8 or so.

Better skies,

Perry

bopped around checking out the "M"s, I noticed on TheSky6 a comet that was
supposed to be close to where I was pointing. I clicked on it on the computer,
slewed and took a peek. Sure enough, I saw what I have to think was C/2009 P1
(Garradd). TheSky said 7.1 mag. Not sure about that, but it sure was visible.
I looked around and didn't think there was anything else this could be. So, I
did some 'net searching and found that it must be the comet. I think I'd read
some about this comet a while back, but has it gotten "old hat" at this time and
nobody mentioning it? I think this was my first look at it.

light out (thanks for that inspiration from those that mentioned it), as I said,
checked out the Messiers some doubles (Mary's mention of B Mon), and a glimpse
at Mars. I kept fogging up the EPs. Luckily I keep an old hair dryer in the
observatory and a very short blast clears that up. Went inside when it got into
the teens. Hoping for a repeat tomrrow (snowing now here).

think a gathering of the rest of the clan still makes sense. Now, I live in
Colorado. I plan to ride my motorcycle to Branson MO the weekend before NEAF.
That depends on weather. I've been snowed out a couple of years in April. If I
get to Branson, then I'll check weather from there to NY. If it looks rideable

Peter,

You stated that perfectly... And yes Anita, the SV110ED really does sound like
a wonderful scope. I'm sure more SV110ED owners will happily share their
experiences with you!

Hello,

I've had the 110ED for a few years now and rate it as the best doublet scope
ever made. I also started the SV110ED album of photos taken through it, with
many contributors, to show the wide range of applications. That should give you
a good idea of how well the scope works.

It is heavy for it's size, but with my SV1 binoviewers and 15mm superwides,
views of the Moon are unbelievably good. I used to have the 80ED and traded up
to this scope. Bought a 70ED later for quick looks and travel.

No better deal for the price. The next step up is the 105 triplet. Better
contrast and snappier focus.

Hey gang, I did something stupid and posted a link to heavens-above.com with a
finder chart for comet Garradd. Unfortunately if you click the link it will log
you into my account, and for obvious reasons I really don't want my account info
spread for all the world to see. I deleted my post, but unfortunately if any of
you get these posts via email, and do a "reply post" through your email account,
it will perpetuate more posts containing my account info. I guess I need to
change my password now. Anyway, thanks to Jim B. for catching onto this and

Haha, John. Actually the worst case scenario would be that someone might change
my observing site info (like Jim B. inadvertently did!). It's not like it's
linked to my bank account or anything, like my Allstars Platinum Account is! ;-)

Hey Scott,

As I was telling Jim B., the seeing that morning wasn't the best, so my subs
suffer from that. I may process them later, or go for C/2009 P1 again this
weekend. I'll be back in the NC mtns. tomorrow afternoon. God's country, fer
sure!!!

The comet is supposed to be closest to Earth on March 5th, so it should be at
its brightest rat around now.

Better skies,

Perry

PS: You can use heavens above.com anonymously, you know, by NOT signing in! I
resent Jim that chart showing C/2009 P1 by doing it that way.

Geeeeezzzzz...  <8^}

Thanks, Perry! I know you can use Heavens Above anonymously, but the reason I
have an account is that the main reason I use it is for its satellite tracking
info. Unfortunately, I was logged in when I posted the link, which
inadvertently gave everyone my account info. Anyway, it's fixed now. :-)

I heard a while back this happened with Orion's website as well, linking a

Wow Scott, you screw up and a good thing happens like dragging John into the
white hot glare of the Stellarvue Universe. Good job.

John,

I'd like to issue a belated welcome to the group, stick around. As an owner of a
90T (SV90T Fluorite circa 2006)I know what a great scope you own. You have had a
year of observing with that baby so share some of it with us. It is especially
nice on a night like to night here on PA, wind, snow flurries, rain, fog and a
toasty 37 being the only reason it's not worse. So help out an arm chair bound
fellow SV90T owner with some tails or trials about your baby.

Thanks, all.

The scope shipped today, via FedEx Ground.
I already have PortaMount, and wanted a 1.25" & 2" diagonal. So I e-mailed
Stellarvue, and asked if they would swap a diagonal for the mount. So I bought a
1.25" diagonal, and a got 2" diagonal in place of the free PortaMount that Vic
is offering to the All Stars members.

It will be a bit of fun comparing the NHNG to my AT 1010 acromat. Sort of a
father and son, or maybe grandson comparison. The AT 1010's false color never
bothered me much. Now I will have a better lens for comparison. The focuser is a
big improvement over the AT 1010 too.

BTW- are there any plans for a star party around NEAF? Maybe I can get some
vacation time around then.

Cheers
Mike

Mark,
I recently purchased an SV110 and am very happy with it, and would purchase it
again. I haven't had it out as often as I'd like (between the weather and the
demands of my life) but warmer weather is coming. I have been observing under a
year, and don't have tons of experience, but my telescope odyssey has been a SV
Nighthawk, then a Schmidt-Newt 6 inch to cheaply expieriment with aperature,
then the SV110. The SV110ED "feels" as if it has the same aperature as the 6
inch, but gives incrediblly sharp and beautiful views (and doesn't need to be
collimated and cools down quickly). It's a bit heavy, especially nose-heavy, but
I can handle it (I sit behind a computer all day). Pay careful attention to your
mount (if you are buying a new one) and I think you will be very happy with the
SV110. It's a nice step up from 80mm (but hold onto your Raptor for travel etc).
That my two cents.

a good idea of how well the scope works.
