Another happy Vivitar user here. Note that the current model is the 285HV,
which has a lower trigger voltage, making it safe to use with electronic
cameras. Sometimes it's helpful to shoot a test shot with a digital camera, and
many older flashes can damage a digicam.

The extra height really makes red-eye a non-issue, at the price of making the
camera top-heavy and slightly more awkward to handle.

Hi, I'm going to use an electronic flash with my Realist 3.5, and I'd like to know if anyone can recommend any flash makes/models that work well with it....

The trusty old Vivitar 283 works just fine, and is my favorite foolproof general flash. Be sure to use a voltage reducing gizmo like the ones sold by Dr.,T Dan...

Sometimes simple is best. For the few flash stereos I shoot I've been using a pocket-sized Nikon SB-30 mounted on the camera with one of the little devices Dr....

Yes, DrDave is correct about the voltage issue. My adapter will let you use a flash without modifying the camera. It can also accept more than flash units...

I personally use an Olympus T20 flash (about $20 used) with a "filed down" Realist (and my RBT X4 SLR). This is a lightweight compact flash that uses two AA...

... I second the vivitar, really nice flash with indicator of flash readiness and auto f8 for k64 and auto f11 for fujichrome 100! I use the Hama flash...
