Is there a simple way to add a time stamp to a document. It would be really
nice to have a
timestamp icon that could be added to the toolbar.

Is there any plan to support projects in SubEthaEdit? This is
probably the only thing keeping me from using it as my primary editor.

It would very handy to be able to search my SEE files with Spotlight directly

Is this this something that is being considered for the future?

I've searched the SubEthaEdit web site till I'm blue in the face and can NOT
find anything that
resembles a user manual. The Help system is of no help either. It's just not
intuitive enough
for me to guess what "Previous Symbol" or "Next Symbol" means, as an example.

How do we learn how to use this thing?

We are working on a more comprehensive user manual.

"Next Symbol" jumps to the next symbol. Symbols are also displayed in
the Symbol Popup, next to the line number indicator in the top status
bar.

Thanks for your reply Martin. I really do appreciate your attempt at explaining
the purpose
of the example I brought up, but seriously, if you put yourself in my place of
not ever
having seen SubEthaEdit before then you will see that I still have no idea what
Symbols are
or how they are used. I gathered that the buttons took you to the next one or
the previous
one, since that is how they are labeled. And I can only guess at what they are
used for or
how one goes about creating one. What I *want* them to do is to allow me to
place
markers in my file so I can quickly hop around from place to place.

Also what I want is an easy way to make scripts without having to dive headfirst
into
Applescript. Can I record a series of actions into a script? 3 of my favorite
scripts that I use
in BBEdit are F5=finds next occurrence of the current selection forward in the
file,
F6=finds it backwards, and F7=finds selection anywhere as a label (i.e., starts
in col#1).
So, how would I do this in SubEthaEdit?

I did manage to make my own Mode file (for a Freescale MC9S08) using another
mode file
as a template. It works but I don't really know what I'm doing.

If I had a decent manual and can easily add scripts to this, I'd buy it. Right
now I'm on the
fence, cause I like what I see in SubEthaEdit but I can navigate easier and more
quickly
through my edit with BBEdit.

Get me a manual before my 30 days expire, OK? :)

Hi,

I sent the Dutch version for both 2.6.1 (March, 6) and 2.6.2 (March,

in the files section of the Yahoo group. I wasn't expecting anything

by any chance? Should I send it to someone else?

I'm there, but as you might imagine, we were quite busy working on
the issues that required the 2.6.2 release. I will upload the 2.6.2
resources later this weekend.

Yes I saw the two releases follow each other very quickly. Thanks for
uploading beforehand. I always try to follow your releases at
shortest notice possible. Releasing if possible the same day you do.
I had already posted notice to some Dutch forums, about the new
versions. Maybe I was a little bit over enthusiastic in this case...

Hi Eric.

Currently there isn't a ui for that yet, but you can add extensions
as follows:
1) Hold down option, go to "Mode/Show in Finder/Python.mode"
2) Navigate to Resources
3) Open ModeSettings.xml in SubEthaEdit
4) Add a line saying "<extension>cpy</extension>" after line 5.
5) Save and select "Mode/Reload Modes"

Martin

Try changing the name of the SubEthaEdit file to have a .txt name. Then run a
spotlight
search and see if that makes any difference.

YES! I'm excited that a Multi-File Search is in the works. This is

Thanks. Any ETA for when we might see this new feature?

As said, from the command line. I guess it can be done with some "osascript"

It's possible to edit a plist (or other file) to correct this ?

J'ai fouillé dans les fichier du paquet, mais je n'ai pas trouvé où se trouvait

Quelqu'un aurait une idée ?

Hello Maamut,

I found the URL in the mode package for PHP-HTML. I'm glad you asked
because I've been curious about this as well.

The URL is in
"SubEThaEdit.app/Contents/Resources/Modes/PHP-HTML.mode/Contents/Resources/Scrip\
ts/Lookup
in PHP Documentation.scpt"

You can open the file with Applescript and change the line that begins
with "open location"

Good luck!

Wonderful :D

I have just added a comment tag for the original string and after i copy a new
string :

		 (*
		 open location "http://de.php.net/manual-lookup.php?lang=en&pattern=" &
someString
*)
		 open location "http://fr.php.net/manual-lookup.php?lang=fr&pattern=" &
someString

Easy to adapt in other langage.

And it's working fine ;)

Thx,

PS: My english is very bad, i'm sorry :(

I was able to accomplish this with a combination of AppleScript and
bash. First, I put this script in /usr/local/bin/seeline (it can go
anywhere in your $PATH, make sure to chmod +x it):

#!/bin/bash
# Opens SubEthaEdit with a particular file and runs an AppleScript to
# set the cursor to the given line.
FP=`echo $1`
see $FP
osascript ~/Library/Scripts/seeline.applescript $FP $2

Then, I put this AppleScript in ~/Library/Scripts/seeline.applescript:

(* AppleScript to set the cursor of a SubEthaEdit document to
* a particular line. Requires the full path to the file and a
* line number.
*)
on run argv
    try
if (count of argv) is less than 2 then
        activate application "SubEthaEdit"
      else
        tell application "SubEthaEdit"
repeat with i from 1 to count of documents
if path of document i is equal to item 1 of argv then
set startCharacterIndex of selection of document i to 0
set length of selection of document i to 0
set p to paragraph (item 2 of argv as integer) of plain
text of document i
set selection of document i to p
set length of selection of document i to 0
            end if
          end repeat
          activate
        end tell
      end if
on error the error_message number the error_number
      display dialog "Error " & the error_number & ": " & the
error_message
    end try
end run

Now, try running `seeline /path/to/file linenumber`. If the file is
already open, the cursor will be moved - otherwise SEE will open it,
then move the cursor.

Cheers,

Ben

Thanks. I wasn't aware that osascript can take parameters from the
command line. Great. (For this, I was working on a solution with a
"here document" for the applescript and parameter expansion in a bash
script -- now I checked: argument passing is possible since 10.4,
though...).

Thanks for the info. Would you consider such AppleScript
functionality in the future? Background: I use SubEthaEdit as
monitoring device glued into a (Lua) debugger, and being able to make
a currently invisible, but selected line would be useful.

I receive files from clients in word documents on a regular basis and
cut-and-paste the text into html files (which I edit in SubEthaEdit).
That's great except for the special characters that Word uses like
open and close single and double quotes, ellipses and dashes.

If I use a very basic file encoding (like ASCII) then I am warned
about the special characters and if I insert as-is they are stripped
out. That's not ideal. If I use something like Mac OS Roman, they
are pasted into the document, but I have to try to find them and
search-and-replace each one. Inevitably, I miss one or two (the
dashes are particularly hard), and it adds a round of iteration with
the client (the chars get translated to "?" marks or small squares).

Ideally, I'd like if there was a SubEthaEdit feature that was aware
that there the document special characters that won't translate to the
web, and converts them to their ASCII counterparts en-masse, without
me having to specify them one at a time. Is there such a feature in
SubEthaEdit or could it be added with a script or plugin or something?

Love the editor and thanks for your help!

Thanks for your input. In the meantime (until we add a feature that will add
HTML entity
conversion) what you can do is convert the text to ASCII (via the bottom bar or
the format
menu). When you do that and there are still non-ASCII characters in there, the
encoding
doctor will come up showing you all these and then you can change them.

Best,

Before you paste the text into the document try running the following
applescript:

    do shell script "
    pbpaste |
    perl -pe 's/([^[:ascii:]])/sprintf(\"&#%03d;\", ord($1))/eg' |
    pbcopy
    "

That should convert all non ascii characters to their character
entity equivalents.

I'd recommend using UnicodeChecker[1] to convert characters to their
HTML entities (and vice versa).
Install it and there will be an entry in "SubEthaEdit/Services"
called Unicode that contains the necessary tools that can be used on
the currently selected text.

All the best,
