I have had discussions recently with some subminiature collectors who
are concerned about buying from auctions where the details are not in
English.
I have added a pop-up link to Babel fish translation on the banner at
http://www.submin.com/forsale/ebay/index.htm
The contents menu provides the named searches for a few hundred
subminiature cameras. When the main area has a page from e.g. Ebay.de in
German click on the Babel Fish and then on the Ebay page, pop up the
menu (secondary button in Windows) and select properties. Cut the URL
and paste into the dialogue box for web page and select the language.
Not perfect but very quick and effective. Even if not buying often there
are items of interest to review.
Many interesting Minox items are seen more often on Ebay.de and at lower
prices, even with the postage taken into consideration. Even some
Japanese cameras turn up at lower prices than gained on Ebay.com. More
sellers in Germany are accepting PayPal payments, particularly since
Ebay bought PayPal.

The files uploaded (recent notices) have been removed. Some of the other
photograph goups have had similar spam and these links also uploaded.
New sections on HIT cameras has been loaded at www.submin.com/17.5mm.
These pages include photographs and specs where possible. Some
'instuction' sheets have been added as well.
Under Forsale the hot search links for Ebay now include a whole menu of
HIT and 17.5mm cameras. Although problems of spelling are not over come
these hot links might help others to locate the cameras missing from
their collection.
The links for other cameras has been updated and the US section is now
complete with all manufacturers' links set up.

New additions have been posted at
http://www.submin.com/110/manuals/minox/index.htm
Including the handbook for the F110 flash and an article (?) on the
Minox 110s published by Minox USA.
In the Pentax 110 section
http://www.submin.com/110/manuals/pentax/index.htm
The very heavy Repair manual has been made available, a brochure on the
Pentax and an advertisement.
Both manuals/handbooks for the Rollei 110 cameras have been made
available at
http://www.submin.com/110/manuals/rollei/index.htm
And a request - anyone spot the handbooks for Canon Ed and ED20 please
let me know (off list).
Thanks

A few years ago the 1st German Minox club published a price guide to all
the Minox 8x11 cameras and accessories
The little booklet is 36 pages with index. Even though it is in German
the majority consists of description and value so decipherable even
without understanding German.

Updates and additional manuals have been uploaded to www.submin.com/110.
This section includes details on the 'pro' 110 cameras only.
The Rollei A110 and E110 manuals, Pentax Auto 110 Super, winder and
lenses instructions have been added to the Minolta Zoom SLR Mark I and
II and Minox 110S manuals.
Manuals in German include Auto 110 as well as the two Rollei manuals
(which are multilingual).
Details on the cameras and accessories now include dates and final
values from Ebay auctions as a guide to value.

Just got a Bolsey 8. It is smaller than some of the 16mm
cameras and is a movie camera as well as a single shot still
camera. Might even be nice to do an animation with one :)
I am posting the manual at

With the destruction of all 1.9Gb of the web site it has taken
sometime to get it restored. The Minox magazine section still has to
be reloaded as parts remain to be done.
Meanwhile the Mikroma manuals in English, German and Czeck and a
developing tank handbook in English have been scanned and uploading
is in progress. At 29Mb the section should be ready shortly.
The section on Mikroma cameras has been updated and the images
present have now been linked into web pages so can now be viewed.
There are at least 19 variations including 6 models (3 single lens, 3
stereo) and a special version.
Several of the accessories are now shown. The copy stand is
particulary interesting, made of steel, but a nicely engineered
accessory.

The translators work on text and the above link has brochures in BMP
and JPG image file formats.
some interesting history and a strange collection of enlargers and
projectors. A company that has been in production for longer than
Minox, even if they only now make a 35mm camera and a reange of
enlargers and otehr optical devices. Note also that they repair to as
new condition many of their products.
The ISP hosting the site www.submin.com had an upgrade on Thursday of
last week. The majority of files for the site were discovered lost on
Sunday of last week. 800Mb has been reloaded over the Christmas bank
holidays, but currently the Minox manuals and brochures (1.1Gb) need
to be restored. It is hoped that the ISP (freeola.com) will be able
to restore these.
Unfortunately this has interferred with the planned updates to the
site.

Got the Minox Classic Camera book finally - half Deutsch/half English.
Interesting but politically correct info on Minox - but equally as
much on Leica. I DID learn a lot from this small tome - even more om
Leica than I previously knew.
Am looking at Leica IIIf's and IIIg's on the used market - from what
I read.
BTW Minox wants $200 for a flash unit for any Classic Camera series
camera - ouch!

We have only a limited number of 'instructions' for the roll
film Hit cameras upon which the Rubix was based.
John Craig cameras did not have any last time I looked but
he frequently updates his site so go back often to look for
one.

Yes the directory is empty. A manual has been obtained and
hopefully will be
posted over Christmas along with the other 16mm camera
manuals waiting
to be scanned.
John S Craig of www.craigcameras.com is where the copy came
from. So
if you need an original watch his web pages - it more like a

supporting these cameras and selling well.

Give credit card details to Minox and they pop it in the
post to you. Very cheap and fast.

They do not like e-mail. In Germany they responde best to
phone calls.

It is cute and expensive and they are now appearing for less
than the Minox advertised price.

I have purchased 3 direct from a high street seller in
Germany and the Leica IIIf from a shop in London.
Gerald
Why isn't Minox supporting this camera series?
Other than film - no info on cases or straps or the supposed flash
for the series.
Even the book on the series - is hard to get.
Minox US and Deutschland are both eekingly slow to respond to e-mail
on this series.
Kinda makes the cameras expensive, glorified paperweights.
Bought a Leica IIIg in black - all I got was a nice wooden box,
camera, i.b. and a roll of film. I could have bought a Nikon body in
35mm for the cost.
An Xmas gift for my brother - am kinda non-plussed by it.
Smile Photo in NYC is one of the few discount NYC houses selling this
at less than list price.
There is a new layout in the Ebay section
http://www.submin.com/forsale
Some sample bad deals have been outlined in
http://www.submin.com/forsale/deals
and the Ebay section has been spilt for faster loading
http://www.submin.com/forsale/ebay
The international section now has hot search links for a larger range
of subminiature cameras. The US, DE and UK sections have been put
onto separate pages to reduce scrolling.
The guide to buying on Ebay has been improved following suggestions.
Thanks.
Four more issues of the original Minox Memo are now available for
downloading. The web pages show thumbnails are and very quick to
view but need each page to be clicked on in turn and you have to wait
for it to download before geting the next.
Winter 1960 with a Minox Photo Contest that attracted 7256 entries (a
slight difference from the 160+ members of MHS or even the 520+ of
Minox-FAQ). There is an article on a skyline mural 15 feet long.
It also contains three pages of dealers in the USA and a cataglogue
of Minox accessories but the price for the Minox states "camera
prices start under $140".
<http://www.submin.com/8x11/manuals/minox/minox_memo_60winter.htm>
Spring 1961 includes an article on author and curator Peter Pollack
who wrote "The Picture History of Photography". Minox goes to Moscow,
as Khrushchev gets Minoxed.
<http://www.submin.com/8x11/manuals/minox/minox_memo_61spring.htm>
Summer 1961 has a leading article on shooting ducks with the mighty
Minox. there is a Minox Glossary where you get to know the definition
of Miinoxable, Minoxette, Minoxization, Minox Men, Minox-Minded,
Minoxonia and Minox-periences - but not Minoxed?
<http://www.submin.com/8x11/manuals/minox/minox_memo_61summer.htm>
Summer 1970 includes the history of Minox and the new Minox C,
copying with a Minox and which black and white or colour film to use.
there is also a price list with a Minox C at $219.50, B at $184.50
and a III-s at $149.50
<http://www.submin.com/8x11/manuals/minox/minox_memo_70summer.htm>
also included is a 600dpi which means the 3.53Mb becomes a 24.4Mb
down load, but the scans are very close to the original pages.
<http://www.submin.com/8x11/manuals/minox/minox_memo_70summer600.htm>
This brings the number available to down load to 16. There are 29 or
30 altogether.
The scan samples at 600dpi, 200dpi with and without moiré correction
are under files/Scans
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SubminiatureVariations/files/scans/
600dpi is close to the original but looks like a newspaper (the
manuals are infact like that) and do not scale well, but will print
very close to the original. Going for 600dpi means a storage of some
18Gb for what is already available at www.submin.com. Staying with
200dpi will still take 83 days to rescan the material to remove the
moiré affect. I would add new material first and then rescan the
older ones later. I also estimate that storage would be about 4.3Gb,
so I could distribute on a DVD+R or several CD-ROMS if a demand
existed. Going for 600dpi would possible mean having to include only
requested sections. Not every one may want 900Mb of Minox B manuals
but may prefer a 58 to a 70 version of the manual to match their
camera. Also 600dpi would mean not being able to upload to the web
site all the material.
I have had two replies form people I have asked who would prefer
600dpi (but they have very fast internet access) and two who are
happy with any and can't see the difference, but can I make them one-
tenth the size.
The 'newer' scans samples can be seen with the Pentax Auto 110 and
Minolta manuals. The thumbnails also allow for more consistent
downloads as the browser does not have to try to download 24 pages at
once but means 24 clicks and waiting for each page in turn and then
clicking back. The thumbnails, if adopted for all manuals will take
up 20Mb on their own.
