I have updated details on some of the HIT type cameras listed at

including a 1920x1200 photo of 210 cameras. They don't fill the space
completely, but allows some room at add in more later.

  All the cameras in the photo now have weight and dimensions added to the
descriptions.

I still need photos for some cameras and the 210 represents about half of
what is documented.

The MG-s is perhaps the penultimate 16mm camera. It was one of the
last 16mm cameras to be designed and came from a long history of
development by Minolta of the format. The later QT was an attempt to
make a camera easier to use and to compete with 110 cameras.

The 12x17mm negative and exceptional lens makes this and the QT worth
while of continuing use and prints do compare well against the results
I have and continue to see with 35mm cameras.

Unfortunately most MGs and QT cameras have been stored with battery in
place which have damaged the contacts if not in fact more serious
parts of the light meter. Getting inside to clean up is possible but
many have had the screws corroded in. Getting a mint camera is very
rare, but unfortunately not any more valuable than a junk camera
needing repair. The attache case version is the ultimate kit, but even
that lacks the right angle finder and developing tanks. There was a
developing tank that does not require the cassette to be snapped in
half (something definitely not to do with cassettes getting harder to
find).

Of all the subminiature cameras the MG-s is my firm favorite with the
QT next, even more than the Minox. I used to carry the two Minoltas,
and a Minox BL and C on holiday trips.

from Harris Aaronson on Hit type cameras.

There are now 451 separate variations listed under
http://www.submin.com/17.5mm. Only 37 are without photographs. This is
still not the complete and definitive list as many of the 'names' will
have more color leatherette than are shown.

I finally, yesterday, uploaded all the manuals and articles to
www.submin.com that I had done last year (about 1.6Gb). So all 5.65Gb
is uploaded. Only one person asked about one of the repair manuals,
for which I had only the thumbnails but not the full images uploaded
earlier this year. Now any faults are mis-typed links, not missing
images from the site.

Of particular interest are the two magazines on Subminiature
photography and 110. As the Peterson Guide is 118Mb and 110 Format is
131Mb, even the snips from Popular Photography is 48Mb these took a
long time to upload on a dial up connection and paid for phone call. I
now can upload at no additional charge - the only good point about
moving home :(

Also online is the Rollie A110 repair manual, 100Mb of Tessina
material, mostly from Heitz over the past 20 years and extracts from
several magazines.

Hi I just moved to the downtown Denver area to go for my dream! I
offer a unique service where I transfer old 8mm's to DVD! Simple as
that. Please spread the word.  Not only will my professional
experience with 8mm's speak for itself, but I allow anybody who
serious about doing this to send in your 8mm's from your house!  I get
work from California to New York.  My process is simple,  and it works
for everybody who has done it. Not alot of people do this sort of

The rare Minimax has been lined up with "Pro" 110 and some typical
other 110 cameras at

If you have not come across this interesting 110 camera have a look at

The metal body and finish is of a higher quality than it's off spring,
the Pentax Auto 110. The camera is roughly the same size as the Pentax
Auto 110 and that of a Rollei A110 when opened ready to use, but has
fixed lens and is not a SLR.

The 110 section is growing slightly beyond the "Pro" range; perhaps
something to avoid as there are perhaps more variations in 110 than
all the other subminiatures put togehter.

The Voigtlander Vitoret has a very professional finish and reports
suggest that it gives good results.

The Tasco binocular cameras where obtained because of the inclusion of
the 16mm Binoc. The camera on the Tasco is very basic and the optics
of the binoculars lack the sharpness and "wow" when using Minox
binoculars.

Other sections that have been recently updated are the Large format,
disc, General, digital and binocular. The updates are minor with some
additional photographs, manuals and auction results. Previously
un-documented 17.5mm HIT type cameras continue to be found and
resulted in the section on HIT (the cameras with HIT on the name
plate) to be re-organised.

A pack of playing cards reminds me of Minox

When I see the Ace I am reminded that there is only one Minox Ur
When I see the deuce I remember the post war model was call the Minox A II
When I look upon the trey I recall the next model was the III and then the
IIIs - three variations in the Model A.
A four calls for the four versions of Minox B - Wetzlar, lattice, honeycomb
and Minox lens
A five, for the five variations of Minox C (no UV filter, complan, raised
rim, flat rim, red LED)
A six because there are six Minox Classics (Leica IIIf, Leica IIIf black,
Leica 1f, Leica M3, Contax I and Hasselblad).
A seven for the seventh camera the BL (after Riga, AII, AIII, AIIIs, B, C)
An eight because of the 8x11 format and the eight models (Riga,A,B,C,BL,LX,
EC,AX).
A nine because of the nine accessories (right angle finder, reflex finder,
tripod, copy stand, filters, binocular attachment, flash bulb and cube units
and electronic flash) and for the nine models of Compact 35mm cameras (CD25,
CD29, CD70, CD112, CD128, CD140, CD150, CD155, M*142)
A ten of the ten models of LX  (LX chrome, LX black, TLX, CLX, LX 2000, LX

The Knave reminds me of the 110s and CD25, only one of each format

The King because the Minox is the king of all subminiature cameras with a
reign of over 65 years

the joker for the 110L and Notebook cameras - ideas that never happened.

Four suits because of the ranges 8x11, 35mm, CD and DC.
Thirteen cards in a pack remind me of the 13 35mm models (AL, EL, PL, PE,
GL, GT, ML, MB, MDC, GSE, GT-E, GT-X, GT-S).

I leave off matching the dots on the card because they don't add up to 365
"If the cards were double-ended the total would be:
4 * (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 +10 + 2 + 2 + 2) = 244
If the cards were double-ended and had 2 index signs on each card, the total
would be:
244 + (4 * ( 2 * 13)) = 348" and this was a delibrate mistake as all
Almanack have errors!

I would like to publicly thank you for my copy of the Variations in
Subminiature Cameras DVD Set! The information on these DVD's is simply
incredible!! I started going through the information at about 6PM after
work, and didn't even get through 1 DVD!! Unbelievable!!

To all club members, I would like to give you guys a heads up, and buy
his DVD set... When I tell you it's worth far more than the price he's
asking, I'm not kidding! THIS LOOKS LIKE A LIFETIME OF INFORMATION
PACKED ON 2 DVD'S! Practicly anything you want to know about subminis,
but couldn't find, is on Gerald's DVD set!

Recently "completed" sections on large formats subminiature and 35mm cameras
have been uploaded to
http://www.submin.com

Last month the 17.5mm/HIT types, 110, disc, APS, binocular (mostly
monocular) and general sections where uploaded. This means all these
sections are linked in and the information I currently have included which
means photographs, scanned manuals, brochures and instruction sheets.

35mm
====
Looking at the Rollei 35 was very interesting. As German prices fall to
one-third of 2001/2002 prices in US$ holds high and one seller is turning
80EUR in 220USD 20-30 at a time. Very few Rollei cameras have boxes or any
form of packaging. Many lack cases or even the wrist strap. The large number
of 500-900EUR special edition will make sourcing samples very hard -
expensive.

It was also surprising to see the number of variations of the Boltavit and
Photavit cameras. There are several lens and shutter choice for each model.
Although many agree that there are 5 models of Photavit what is a III, IV or
V differs. They are not marked up other than by lens and shutter type.

Still to come
=============
Updates to the 8x11 format cameras is the final task to complete. The Minox
section needs a lot of work on it, as many photographs of Minox cameras and
accessories still need to be linked in and written up.

It was assumed that the limit of all the data would be about 4Gb and fit on
a DVD. That barrier was exceeded a few weeks ago. A large number of articles
from magazines, often with 2Mb scans per page have been included. About
400Mb of manuals still needs to be upload to the web site. The hard drive
has a master copy with over 5.2Gb.

Future plans are to scan and include photocopies of advertisements sent in.
There are 100-150 sheets, but often very small advertisements.

Useful tips from the archives of various lists needs will be included. Most
topics that have been discussed may already be included.

Sample photographs for more Minox 35mm cameras and to compare with Canon
Ixus II, Minolta Vectis S1, all the 'pro' 110 cameras and about 20 cameras
using Minox 8x11 film are in the cameras. 20 Minox films at 30EUR each and
10 35mm at 7GBP each will be a fair bill. Of course all need processing at
once because the same picture, at some locations, is taken with 30 cameras
for comparison.

A number of manuals originally scanned at 200dpi will need to be redone
these at 300dpi to remove some of the scan effects. Changing to thumbnails
with side bars added 8700 files and 20,268,986 bytes to the site but some
manuals are now 20Mb downloads. Always a compromise between easy of download
and quality to re-print. 300dpi is half of what I would like but 80Mb
manuals would be impossible for too many people to handle. There was no feed
back on the manual at 2400dpi compared to the 300dpi version. Some still
would prefer access to scans at higher than 2400dpi. I can't afford the
costs.

Many sections need to be re-written to pull out the specifications from
manuals, create tables and make for more consistent style. Meanwhile all the
data available is now there, including photographs of cameras, their
accessories, some details on each, auction dates with value and some notes,
scanned leaflets, manuals and articles.

Others...
=========
Some non-subminiature cameras - e.g. Leica Z2X - have been included. Having
access to the Leica and to show the difference between the Leica and the
similar specification Minox CD range.  Some notes on the Contax range has
been included.  This might change and become more strict by removing all,
except the Minox CD range, 35mm cameras that are larger than the 100mm size
(4x2x1 inch) that is pocketable. More half frame cameras may have to be
included if any more are smaller than the 4 inch rule.

Variations
==========
Variations still turn up, even with cameras that seems to be so well
documented.

The 110 cameras section has increased a little, but getting samples of the
hundreds of thousands of very cheap 110 cameras is beyond the remit of the
site. The Minolta and Rollei variations may be include as Agfa 110 cameras
are now written up.

More APS cameras are to be reviewed. The Canon Ixus II is such a useful
quality pocketable camera, it is smaller than Minox 35ML and hardly larger
than a Minox 8x11. The zoom and flash mean one small package not two or
more. APS is also much cheaper to have processed than 8x11. APS cameras do
make for an interesting collection and top models are now very cheap.

I have uploaded 100Mb this morning to http://www.submin.com A 7 hour
30minutes local phone call!! Storage is free and unlimited but I have to use
dial up for uploads and pay for a local call.

Under the 17.5mm section I have new photos of Prince 16A more variants and
photos for CMC, Corona, Gem 16, Kuki, Saica, TCS Tacker, gallery of photos
taken with a Gem 16 in the 1950s (very poor - the other 5 rolls of film
where exposed but ignored and now exposed to light leaks that it isn't worth
developing. I also have more instruction sheets and shop sample photograph
for the Gem 16. I might slit some film and try one or two of the top models
(Tone, Halmat, TCS Tacker, Epoch, Mycro IIIA), just to see how they come out
after I have got through the tests on the 8x11, 110 and APS cameras.

16mm (later today/tomorrow) boxed Rubix, Petie Ompex, Camoject, another
Mamiya enlahead, Minolta and more scans of articles on Mikroma and Scat and
Rubix instruction sheet.

More loads more manuals for Minox 35mm and Tessina literature and articles
(50Mb) to be uploaded over the next few weeks, to bring the total to 470Mb
in the 35mm manual section.

8mm section has updates on Bolsey 8, Echo 8. The Disc section has updates to
Petal, Photoret and new articles on Magna Wrist camera as well as the
patents and prototype (from the inventor).

To 110 cameras have been added Agfa, Tasco and Voigtländer and is waiting
new uploads of manuals of 380Mb (mostly Agfa).

The main updates are the large format subminiatures which I have finally
linked in. This section includes ULCA, Photolet, Aligon, Ben Akiba,
Photo-oda, Eljy, F-21, Neon, Top Camera Works, Presto, Sida, Univex. Updates
to several other sections with filling in links of photographs and to
articles.

Shortly the 35mm section will be completed and uploaded. I have more details
on Biflex, Balda, Boltax, Contax, Ducati, COMI Luxia, Elop Elca, Fujica
Mini, Mecaflex (also an article on the same), Minox and Tessina.

I'll struggle awhile with the general section upload as the scanned articles
from Popular Mechanic Nov 65, Photography 56 and in particular Petersen's
Guide to small cameras and Popular Photography special issue on small
cameras Aug 63 are over 200Mb.

The for sale section (with links to Ebay and shops with web sites has also
been updated).

Hi

I have been pushing forward with changes on the web site www.submin.com

The sections on 110, 16mm (down to M*) reflect the changes where I have
taken away the buttons because Java is not part of Windows anymore. The
links are straight hypertext links and appear at the top of the frame.

I have more Agfa 110 manuals to clean up but the sections of 110, 8mm,
16mm, disc, binocular / monocular, general are all completed to the same
level as the 110 section. I still have to find the time to uploaded all
the current changes over the past 10 days but much of the material is
there (still with Java buttons).

This leaves me with completing the large format, 35mm and 8x11 sections
and a little more to do on the APS. The critical Minox 8x11 section
still leaves me with much work to do.

There are over 28,000 files and just under 5Gb of data, most of which of
course are the scanned pages and 200,000 photographs taken (reduced to
two to four images per item/camera).

I have been looking into the next 16mm subminiature cameras on my list.

The Rubix/Rubina cameras using 16mm film in cartridges, although some
models take paper backed roll film.

Inexpensive and deluxe of the early Rubix are confusing. My sample has
a fixed focus lens that can be removed from the body. I assume it is
the deluxe version as the inexpensive version can not have the lens
removed, however the various books that say anything at all indicate
that the deluxe has a focusing lens.

The SCAT

Seems to have two common versions. One with a plate on the "base" near
the lens which covers a slider - and so matches the discription of the
intermediate version. The other  has a solid base (no slots or covers)
and so presumably the filters version. The filters supplied with both
cameras are clip on filters, that is, not fixed to or inside the camera.

I can't find any photographs of the first version with a sliding
aperture setting.

Authors seem confused over the negative size and some even claiming
that a Minox 8x11 (9.2mm film) would fit into the early version of the
camera. The frame and the mask next to the negative have the camera
held longest side vertical to give a landscape 10x7mm image; making
this a half-frame 16mm with the common 16mm format being 10x14mm. The
camera uses the perforations to advance the film and as Minox film has
no perforations a camera of this mechanical construction could not use
Minox type film.

If anyone has a SCAT with aperture control or a Rubix III please let
me know so I can update and correct the details I have.

Thank you for your help! Nevertheless, my camera is not the same as the one's
that you mentioned in your links. The body is similar, but there are great
differences, mine for example, has no serial nr. The film advance sytem now
works perfectly, but it is not linked to the shutter cocking machanism. The film
advance system only has a security against double exposures. All photavit
similar models that I saw over the internet do not have the Xenar lens, mine
focus at 0,7 m (I think) the others 1 m. Besides, mine is so cute as it is
red!!! EHEHEHEEH!

the camera takes 24x24mm images, like the Agfa Rapid. The lens are
good and the results excellent.

If you have figured out how the wind on mechanism works you have done
all that needs to be known. The film winds on allowing the shutter to
be cocked for the next frame. Without a film in the camera it can't
operate. You can move this manually.

The first Tessina camera I obtained weighs in at 180g. This is with the pop
up finder but no instruction plates and no film cartridge. The gold L with
nylon gears is 154g. The others are 165/166 g.

180g (35 brushed aluminium),
165g (35?),
166g (35 automatic, black),
166g (35 automatic, brushed aluminium),
154g (gold L silent gears)

I can't see why the Tessina 35 is 14g heavier than the two 35 automatic.

The later (by serial number) black camera 363113 has no provision for a
coupled meter, red B but not 125 and all the f stops are visible.

The earlier 363012 has a coupled meter, red markings for 125 and B and is
clearly engraved Tessina Automatic although this is covered up with the
black finish and not highlighted as on some cameras. Only one f stop is
visible in the alternative windows on the dial/film counter.

I didn't under stand how the dial without these two windows was to work. The
instructions mention two white pointers. The position is identical to the
later L series and appears to have no fixed mark to indicate which side of
the dial the f-stop is to be read from. In examining the brush aluminium 35
automatic the white marks are clearly two sliver pointers and these can be
found under a magnifying glass on the black Tessina!

Karl Heitz offered an upgrade service to convert older cameras so that they
could use a coupled meter.

In trying to check serial numbers to known camera type there is a large
overlap, mixed across colours and nothing certain.

You have picked the wrong list to get the best help.

Mamiya c33 and c330 are listed in the price guide as twin lens reflex
cameras with the c33 worth $120-180 and the c330 as $200-$300.

List on Ebay (ebay.com) or joint a list intested in larger format cameras
and one with a few hundred members for a large enough audience.

My grandfather recently passed away and I was given a Mamiya c33 and
c330. I dont know anything about these cameras and dont know how to
