You probably already saw these obituary articles for George Gedon, in the Sun-Gazette newspaper's 3/30 Bits & Bytes section, and the Sun-Gazette's 3/14/08 Obituary section.
But in case you didn't, here they are.

Since the last publication of Bits and Bytes we have lost a gentleman and a friend.
George Gedon, who wrote this column for the past several years, passed away on March 12.  His interest in computers led him to our local branch of SeniorNet where he became a board member, served as Vice-President, publicity chairman and also assisted in teaching classes.

Many of us knew George as County Coroner and director of the Gedon Funeral Home, but he was a man who wore many hats in his life.  He had a marvelous voice, so it was not a surprise to learn that he had been a radio broadcaster with WWPA and WRAK and a TV caster with the former KATV.  George was also a veteran of the Korean War.

Work in other venues included being a reporter/editor with The Grit Publishing Co., doing publicity for Little League Baseball, serving on the Williamsport Area School Board and as a Radio Reader for North Central Sight Services. One activity especially close to his heart was the Cub Club in Lock Haven where he organized the yearly Sentimental Journey Fly-In.

George, we miss you, but we will picture you crooning and cruising around heaven in a Piper Cub and perhaps sending us telepathic e-mails. - Ciao!

For those of you that have not seen the newspaper or don't receive it, following is the obituary for George.
George W. Gedon
George W. Gedon, age 79, of 108 Sunset Circle, Montoursville, died March 12, 2008, at the Gatehouse Hospice at Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport.

Mr. Gedon was born May 26, 1928, in Lock Haven, and was the son of the late Albert O. and Katherine M. Grugan Gedon-Maggs.

He was married September 12, 1951, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lock Haven to Antoinette T. Rinella Gedon, who survives.

George was a graduate of the Lock Haven High School in 1946 and a graduate of Eckles Mortuary School in Philadelphia. He was also a 1968 graduate of Lycoming College and had attended the former Williamsport Area Community College and Penn State in the Continuing Education programs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Gedon was a former broadcaster with WWPA and WRAK in Williamsport and had been an on-air broadcaster for the former KATV. George had been a reporter/editor with the former Grit Publishing Company and served as assistant public relations director with Little League Baseball Inc., before opening the Gedon Funeral Home on Northway Road, Loyalsock Twp., which he sold in 1996. He also served 18 years as Lycoming County coroner.

He served six years on the Williamsport Area School Board and was a member of the Saint Ann’s Catholic Church in Williamsport. He was a SeniorNet Council board member, assisting in coaching SeniorNet Computer Classes. George had volunteered with the Northcentral Sight Services where he was a Radio Reader. He was also an active board member of the Sentimental Journey at Cub Haven in Lock Haven, serving as program editor.

Surviving in addition to his wife Antoinette Gedon, are two daughters, Mrs. Teresa E. (Dale) Miller, Cogan Station, and Mrs. Georgianne (Kenneth) Lipscomb, Raleigh, N.C.; a son, George A. (Cathy) Gedon, Lock Haven; a brother, Edward (Alberta) Gedon of Avis; five granddaughters, three grandsons, two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Gedon.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 12 noon in the Saint Ann’s Catholic Church, 1220 Northway Road, Williamsport. Celebrant will be Father Andrew Kurovsky of the Saint Ann’s Catholic Church.

Family and friends will be received in the Saint Ann’s Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at 12 noon. Private interment will be in the Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lock Haven.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the Gatehouse Hospice or the James V. Brown Library in Williamsport, through the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
