To register

Call the Library at 326-0536, and ask the desk attendant to put your name and phone number on the "SeniorNet Callback List",
or you can email your phone number or questions to SeniorNet@...

A registration volunteer will call you back.

• If you just have questions, you can also leave your number for the registration volunteer.
• Pre-registration is required, due to class size being limited to 10 students for the 10 computer workstations.
• If a class you want is designated as "FULL", you should request to be put on the "waiting list".  Typically about 30% of all the pre-registered people fail to honor their commitment to show up.
• Classes run for 2 hours a week, for 6 weeks.

The above information is copied from the SeniorNet "Page 3 Class Descriptions" page,
at   SusquehannaSeniorNet.org  .

2. About The Library's "Computer Classes For Older Adults"

Note that the Library is offering several classes, advertised as   "Free Computer Classes For Older Adults".  Details for these classes are on the Library's home page.

Just to avoid confusion, please keep in mind that these "Computer Classes For Older Adults" are NOT connected to SeniorNet.
The Library "hosts" SeniorNet and our classes, but the Library also sponsors many other classes of their own . . . . classes that are not connected to SeniorNet, which is what these classes are.

Some of the main differences are:
• SeniorNet classes are longer in time (2 hours versus 90 minutes)
• Longer in number of sessions (6 sessions versus 2)
• SeniorNet uses Coaches in addition to an Instructor.
• The SeniorNet classes cost slightly more ($25 versus $0), as SeniorNet needs to cover the cost of their step-by-step work-along manuals and other operating expenses.

3. Macintosh Computer Owner Survey

If you use, or are contemplating using a Macintosh computer, please contact Jim Ingram by replying to this email (or leave a message at my voice mail phone number 322-7597).

Reason For Asking:  I am trying to make a list of all SeniorNet members who are Macintosh users, and have identified 5 so far (John B, George C, James I, Shirley K, Helen S).

Additional Comments:

Note that all Macintosh's made since about 2005 have Intel processors, and therefore can run Windows XP operating system (or the beloved Vista operating system) in addition to the Mac operating system.  Thus these newer Macs can run all SeniorNet application programs by running Windows.

We've also added more information for new computer users with Macs on the SeniorNet "New Users With Macs" web page.

Incidentally, the SeniorNet website, the SeniorNet Listserver (which is sending you these emails), and the SeniorNet YouTube videos are all produced on a Macintosh PowerBook laptop.  I also have a Compaq Windows XP laptop computer, but I find that my Windows computer functions most efficiently when used as a paperweight.

While Windows computers are often recommended to the uninformed public by computer repair people who make their living charging by the hour for computer repairs, you find that they often recommend Macs to their friends, and often use Macs themselves.
