Greetings and peace all wildlife and Nature lovers...
Welcome! This is the official eGroup site of the Texas Master Naturalists-Trans Pecos Chapter. The intended purpose of this site is to communicate and share information regarding topics of interest to Master Naturalists in the El Paso-Las Cruces area, including volunteer opportunities, projects, meetings, workshops, seminars, events, and ideas of interest to those whom Nature is close at heart. The local program is under the auspices of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas A&M University Extension Service, and the Texas Forest Service. If you hold Nature at heart and wish to join others in becoming a Texas Master Naturalist here in El Paso, please call Texas A&M Extension Office at 860 2515.
Volunteers are given formal training in all aspects of Chihuahuan Desert ecology from geology, archaeology, meteorology, plus the study of desert plants, bugs, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. Desert wetland habitats are given great emphasis. So far, over one hundred volunteers have been trained in the last seven years. Graduates of the program can be seen volunteering in various parks around the area including the Wyler Aerial Tramway, Franklin Mountain State Park, Hueco Tanks State Park, Guadalupe National Park, the El Paso Zoo, and the Keystone and Rio Bosque Wetland Parks, to name a few.
Again, if you are interested in working with one of the friendliest groups around, a new class is starting next year and will end in May. If you wish to be informed and placed on the list for the next year's class beginning in February, 2010, please call 851-2515 for details.
Thank you for dropping by.
Nature gives us so much, let us give a little back.
Please, do join us.
May you soar with the eagles always...
Peace.
