There are two different stories about the fate of the TRS80 files on
Compuserve.
One is that they will be dumped in a month or less.
The other is that they will be accessible free by web soon.

Hey Neil,

Thanks x2 for the great info (in both quantity and quality) that you've been
sending my way.. I suspected that Tandy still supported the old machines with
software, but it's still amazing to think they do it. I'm going to take a last
shot at finding some disks locally, but I may fall back on Tandy in the end.

I put in a bid on that LNW manual on eBay as well; be cool if I got it.

-ALSO-

I have a friend in Canada asking me to look for Tandy PC-1, PC-2 and similar
pocket models from the 80's. Let me know if you have any leads... He's a good
guy, so it would be nice to come up with a piece for him.

Hey,

Last night, the same shop that brought me the LNW80 yielded up a Tandy 1000EX
computer. It was totally filthy, but cleaned up well...

I guess it was a low cost PC compatible, came with DOS 2.11 and a bundle of
software called 'Deskpro". Apparently, Deskpro had some sort of GUI enviroment.

Anyway, the machine boots into dos 3.30 fine and shows 256K of memory. I'm
currently looking for an online manual.

thanks,

Bill

LNW-80 is a more powerful clone of a TRS-80 model I. It has more RAM capacity
(128K or better I think) RGB graphics were optional, built in expansion
interface, built in "LNDoubler" disk doubler (ala the Percom doubler - allows
one to use double-density drives) and other features like RS-232, parallel port
etc.

The LNW-80 has RS Level II cassette basic in ROM, and supports the standard
cassette hardware and cables. Not may were made, probably less than 2500 units..
Some were built from kits by the owners... my unit is a little odd, in that it
lacks all of the verbiage on the rear panel - none of the jacks are marked as
seen in the LNW tech manuals.. I have yet to learn why this is so.

FWIW, my serial # is like 1287 or so.

The LNW-80 is a 100% hardware compatible machine; the system you describe for
drive connection is identical to the system in the LNW80 manual...

What I'm curious about, is the comment about "wire each drive to select all". Is
that done with those mysterious jumpers that most disk drives have? I've often
wondered what the jumpers were used for.

It sounds like I just need a 'genuine' type drive cable (or wiring diagram to
make my own)

Radio Shack did it's drives/cable weirdly. They pulled pins on each drive
socket on the cable to select drives, and wired each drive to select all.
So the drives (0, 1, etc) are determined by position on the cable, not the
drive itself. I know nothing of the LNW80 system.

Hey, for once I'm not the last one to climb on the bandwagon!

Yes I did get the info; very nice, thanks. I guess I'll be driving up the bid on
the LNW 80 manual... the selling price should tell me something about the value
of the LNW computer itself... I'm starting to get the idea that it is
collectable.

The other thing that confuses me is the issue with connecting multiple drives;
something about motor on/motor off but I can't understand exactly what the
problem is, (or how to solve it). It would seem that a specially wired cable
would be required, but I may be way off. Is it just an issue of telling which
drive to start it's motor?

Great! Now does anyone know a way to interface a HD to the TRS80?
There are many working on this with the Commodore, but what about this

I have acqired one trs80-4-64k
and one trs80-4-128k.
I am new,and want to jump right in on a hard drive addition.
       I`m open to suggestions.
