I tried to state it in the description of the group. From the description at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TacomaSoftwareDevelopment:
<quote>
The Tacoma Software Development Special Interest Group serves as a
forum of discussion and networking tool for those software developers
who live in the Tacoma and surrounding vicinity, regardless of
specialty. Geographical areas that this group is intended to draw from
include Tacoma, South King County, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, &
Puyallup. Members from beyond these areas are welcome, too!

It's very much like the SeaJUG, only it's not Java-specific, for few reasons:
there are too few Java-only people in the south end (and SeaJUG already exists
anyway), interop is a fact of life, and my experience has been that
cross-pollination of ideas across technologies is a Good Thing.
Basically, I'd like to have monthly meetings on technical topics from those
members and/or guest speakers that people would like to hear about, much like
other special interest groups. If you have any ideas, throw them out there -- I
would like for everyone to contribute their ideas and suggestions, keeping it an
open forum.
Does that help?

I'm not yet clear on what "this" is just yet. ;-)
Enlighten me?
