Alas, alack and woe! I will not be able to attend. If not for my
impending nuptials, on the very next day, I would be there. This
sounds like a great idea and hopefully there will be a next one.

Hey all,
I figured I'd point out that there's a LinkedIn.com group
called "Tacoma Software Professionals". Probably not a bad idea to
join that if you aren't in it already.

Hi all,
I just thought I'd see if anyone is hiring in the area (Tacoma and/or
So. King County). I'm more on the Java side of the fence, but have
done plenty of C# as well. For those of you familiar with the Spring
Framework (http://www.springsource.org), I have worked for
SpringSource (the company behind Spring) for the last year and half.
Here's a link to my resume:

Thanks,
Matthew
Who here has experience integrating Python into Java webapps? I have
some apps running under Tomcat that use Spring, Struts2, Hibernate and
several other things. I would like to work Python into the mix at
least in places where scripts are being run.
I just thought I'd ask. Any insight would be appreciated.
I kind of forgot this group existed but was pleased to be reminded
about it. I thought it would be nice to find out who is on here and
what we collectively do.
I'm a Security Consultant with iSEC Partners
(http://www.isecpartners.com/). Lately I have been focused on web
application penetration testing (a lot of ASP.Net) and mobile
application security testing (j2me, BREW, WAP). I work from my home in
North Tacoma often although I also spend time at iSEC's Seattle and
San Francisco offices. I am the current benevolent dictator of the
Tacoma Linux Users Group (http://www.taclug.org/). I am a graduate of
the University of Washington, Tacoma Institute of Technology and
maintain strong ties there as an Industry Advisor to the Grey Hat
computer security student group.
Regarding the tools of the trade, I love my Lenovo t61p with 1920x1200
screen and 4 GB of RAM running Ubuntu 08.04 using dm-crypt for whole
disk encryption. I'm in the market for a smartphone but there are too
many options right now (iPhone 3G, OpenMoko, HTC Touch Pro, wait for
Google Android, etc).

No, not yet. That wouldn't be bad idea, since I think their group is a bit more
narrowly focused than TSD (TacomaSoftwareDevelopment). I'll get right on it...

I tried to state it in the description of the group. From the description at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TacomaSoftwareDevelopment:
<quote>
The Tacoma Software Development Special Interest Group serves as a
forum of discussion and networking tool for those software developers
who live in the Tacoma and surrounding vicinity, regardless of
specialty. Geographical areas that this group is intended to draw from
include Tacoma, South King County, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, &
Puyallup. Members from beyond these areas are welcome, too!
</quote>
It's very much like the SeaJUG, only it's not Java-specific, for few reasons:
there are too few Java-only people in the south end (and SeaJUG already exists
anyway), interop is a fact of life, and my experience has been that
cross-pollination of ideas across technologies is a Good Thing.
Basically, I'd like to have monthly meetings on technical topics from those
members and/or guest speakers that people would like to hear about, much like
other special interest groups. If you have any ideas, throw them out there -- I
would like for everyone to contribute their ideas and suggestions, keeping it an
open forum.
Does that help?

Hi everyone,
Thanks for joining the group! Once we hit a critical mass of 10-15
members, I'd say that it's time to begin meeting.
The only way that something like this is successful is if we each do a
little legwork to spread the word. If you know south-end software
developers, encourage them to join.
Thanks,
Matthew
