A rom drive cant be cleared it can be fried which your motherboard wont work if the rom chip is burnt but if the battery isnt replaced you cant access the rom...
A ROM *drive* can't...but the RAM chip containing that data could be replaced. I know you used to be able to get ROM burners that you could use to write data...
