A reader at the Tasmanian Times posted the notice below. Those putting in submissions might consider commenting on the gutting of the 'Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act' by changes made to it subsequent to the first successful court challenge against forest-rape effects on endangered species in Tasmania (the Wielangta decision). The word 'protect' no longer means 'protect'. Instead it means whatever the government says it means.

Advertised in the Oz recently , under Public Notices, I came across a notice from Dept Env etc stating that there is to be a review of the EPBC Act. Members of the public can make written submissions by 19 December 2008. Given that this is Act has badly let down the people of the Tamar Valley and Tasmania in general, I thought that as many as possible would want to know that this review is occuring so they can make suggestions to improve this pathetic piece of legislation. Go to http://www.environment.gov.au/epbc/review or by phone on 1800 003 513 to find further information about the review and the process for public submissions.
