i have found this web site for building your own PIC programmer,

apparently this works with the MP LAB S.W. or can you use ICSP (in circuit
serial programming) ?
however in the menu in the MP LAB S.W. under 'programmer' how would i go about
ICSP as its asking you to select one of there proprietry programmers ?
