Hello ThaiJUG,
I am in Thailand for past 4 years , Am in ERP business and as of now
am dealing only with MBS products ( microsoft Business Solutions) . I
have touched oracle ( Rapid start) in past. I have been a consultant,
developer, project leader, project manager, unit manger...etectra. and
have learnt inspite of fact people like Big BRAND names at the end what
they go for is one which works for them. so....
I am serious about developing a JAVA based ERP solutions ( I know
Compiere is there and many other real good solutions are available
too!!!), but i have seen more than 4-5 instances of where in customer
using/trying to use! compire switched to MBS ( I am sinsterous in
convincing them to do so ;-)). Reason to switch.. complications and lack
of skillset.
In a corporate or SME secineraio, the IT departments are more focused
on RUNNING the systems , rather than DEVELOPING the system , which
is required upto some extent in compire or Jerpa or similar products. No
offense against these products, they are great and i love them, thing is
in practial situation and competing with GIANTS, it has to be little more
flexible.
Basic features which i would like to go for in phase 1 is:
GL, AP , AR ,cash management ( all in accordance to thai revenue
regulations)
Distibution ( Sales, Purchases , Inventory) in phase 2
and so on so forth
System must and should be based on JAVA ( i would personally prefer
j2ee or netbeans as IDE)
System should be compitable with any available databases ( big issue!)
System should be capabale to reduce the sales cycle by means of visual
interface for client interaction at analysis phase. ( am technical guy who
run the business ..so i have to think of marketing too ;-))
So if any one have similar thoughts please mail me, if u donot agree
with please feel free to critize me ;-)
Cheers
Vasuki
