Dear Colleagues,
Could you tell me: what degree of artery stenosis (by ultrasound scan)
should be considered as hemodinamically significant? It's generally
accepted that stenoses <50% are not significant (and early stages of
arteriosclerosis without vessel narrowing (like fatty streaks) are
present even in adolecsents. But what degree is a sign of
hemodinamically significant stenosis: 50, 70, 75%? Are there any
Guidelines published?
Or maybe should we rely on blood flow pattern
("magistral" / "collateral") in distal vessels rather than on degree
of stenosis?
I decided to ask because recently we made a small study assessing
accuracy of foot arteries palpation. Triplex scan was used as a gold
standard but we considered only stenoses of at least 75% as
significant. Weren't we too strict?
Many thanks beforehand,
Oleg.
