when i play a dvd on my pc i dont get any sound
Rose
--------------
Rose I need a few more details to give you a decent answer to this. Answer me a few questions.. Do you have sound when doing other things besides playing dvds? Are these external speakers or is your sound built in?
If they are external speakers I want you to go through and double check all connections and plug-ins making sure they are snug. Never hurts to check your volume while your at it.. It wouldn't be the first time the whole probem was they weren't turned on..

Hi Rose,
Will need a bit more info than this! What system are you using ? Xp or Vista? Are you getting any sound at all? etc. What have you tried to do? Have you tried Dx Diag?

Kind Regards
                     John & Sue

Rose I had the same problem with my laptop. The auto run used Windows Media Player and I had no sound. All I did was use a different player and had no problem.

Just wanted to drop a line to say that I don't know what 'we' did, but all seems to be working again????
I have been able to successfully remove things from add/remove, I can now get to my internet options, things are not freezing up so often, and my speed seems to be back to 'normal' for my machine.
I still have the 'webpage cannot open' message a bit, but then I am on dial up and am one of those who 'needs' at least 6 windows open at a time to be happy. I sell on ebay so am therefore listing or invoicing, I get tons of email because of various online things I do (newsletters, surveys), I have two email accounts (well 2 I use frequently), plus I LOVE to play mahjongg and always have to have that up for slow periods between other windows... so I can understand the slowing down a bit - usually happens in later afternoon when I know the cache is filling up and I just need to restart.
The only thing I have done (and most of this went back to normal even before I did this) was downloaded IE8 - I am thinking maybe it fixed some things that were corrupt on IE7.
Through all this, my scanner seems to have died... but thankfully I have a spare, if I could only find it!!! hee hee
Anyway - thank you for all your help! I read you every day and get lots of tricks and tips from you to keep me running as fast as dial up will allow!!! (NOTHING else available in my particular little part of the world!!! At least not something someone of fixed income can afford - I understand some of the satellite things are coming down in price, so I can hope... AT&T wireless and all that isn't even available here - only goes 7 miles from town and I am 7.4!!!!!
Hope your garden is doing good! Mine is finally starting. I think my strawberries fried... I had put wood chips around them for mulch and then I don't know what happened!!! I have only ONE lonely bean plant - darn doves anyway, they do this to me every year!!! And I think they got most of the corn, I only see about 2 stalks so far! I had a greenhouse this year and was getting a good start on things and then we had a couple hard freezes, next year I need a small heater along with the fans. I did salvage some of it, only had to buy a few tomato plants to round out things.
Have a great day!!! And again thanks for all your help!

Nancy - Since this isn't really "computer" related, don't know if this is allowed - if not, don't worry, but thought it might help! *LOL*

Sharon, Do you have someone in town who's address you can use for AT&T? I've been using AT&T since 2001, and I've NEVER actually lived in an area that they would sell me service. But my previous address was in Denver, which was covered (I lived about 80 miles east on the Colorado plains), so I got my service using my old address, but with my "new" address as the mailing address. I've moved since then, changed service options, bought new phones, etc., etc., etc., and never had any problems. I can't even remember (without looking it up) the original address I used, but they always have it! And even though I've never lived in a "AT&T area," I've always had better service than the people I know that have "local" service. Other family members have had various cell phone providers, and I've always had way better service, in more areas, than they have!

Hi Nancy,

How's the garden doing?  Great I hope.  It has to be doing better than mine. Range cows walked through it the other night. What they didn't eat, they trampled.

I have a problem with a Microsoft update.

Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 x86 (KB963707)
will download but the installation fails.

When I go look at the history and click on the failure icon it says
"Installation Failure  Error Code 0x8007064C"

I attempted to enter the error code into "Find Solutions" with "Sorry, no results found" for a search.

So here I am asking for help.  Any idea's?

I own a small business very small. I have no payroll or tax reports to figure ever. All my income is 1099. I do have to invoice every thing I do to the different entity I work under contract for. I have Quickbooks but it seems really difficult for me to get around in and do anything but my invoices.  I have hired countless people to come into my home office and use QB to keep up with my posting to general ledger and balance my bank accounts. I guess my question is ... is there any QB learning software for dumb A##'s like me to figure out how to do this myself? QB tutorials are just as difficult for me as the software is. I simply don't understand what it is asking or asking me to do.

Hi, Nancy and friends,

My 5 year old Dell computer currently has a 150GB C: drive (NTFS) with about 18GB of used space. I also have a 250GB D: drive (NTFS) with 50GB of used space. They are not RAID configured, and I have not compacted any files. I have Windows XP Pro and all of my programs installed on the C: drive, and use the D: drive only for data storage—documents, photos, music, etc.

I am considering downloading Windows 7's Release Candidate (the Ultimate version, from what I understand) and its "XP mode" module (which is what I'm most interested in), but the download page says:
"If you're running Windows XP or the Windows 7 Beta, you'll need to backup your data, then do a clean installation of the RC, then reinstall your applications and restore your data."

I can understand backing up my data; I have a 750GB external drive for that. What I'm wondering is: can I partition off an unused section of my C: drive, keep my XP and programs where they are without reinstalling, and install 7 on the new partition? If you think this is a possibility, what steps do I need to take to partition the drive—preferably without losing what's already there?

Also, if I can partition it, will I need to load all my programs on the Win7 section to test their performance with that OS, or can I boot in Win7 and still test programs while they're installed on the XP section?

I've read your past posts about partitioning, but either they talk about partitioning with Vista or they concern drives that are already partitioned. I apologize if I've missed one that talks about this specifically.

I've never partitioned before, so detailed instruction for XP, or a web address containing such, would be wonderful!
:)

Thanks so much for your help with all these questions!
