Anthough someone will likely answer all of your questions, I would suggest that
you start by searching the archives .... most/all of the info you seek is there.
Then, ask specific questions you still have.

I will add that the W376 is GSM but that personally I'd spring for the LG600

Boy, where do I start????

  1. Is a GSM phone preferable? Is the Motorola W376g (Bluetooth
  enabled) phone a GSM?

  2. The W376g seems to offer the "most for the least"--free roaming,
texting, Bluetooth, and the ever-popular free shipping. Do users
consider this a reliable phone? If not, is there another Bluetooth
  phone I should consider?

  3. Please explain how DMFL works. This phone has it for life. When I
buy an airtime card, does it have to have DM or do I get DM with any
card? When I activate the card, do I have to enter codes to get DM?

  4. I would like to use the 55118 300 minute bonus code. Do I do this
at activation, or can I do it later? Which card do I buy?

  5. I would be switching from a Verizon post-paid plan. Would the
process be to activate online, then call customer service to port the
old number over? Will I then need a new SIM card because I previously
  activated?

  6. Most of the bonus offers expired yesterday. Are new bonus offers
ongoing? Are they worth waiting for?

  7. Does Tracfone still offer RAF bonuses?

  8. This phone's user does not use his phone much. How long is airtime
valid? If the period is short, say 1 or 2 months, is there a way to
  extend it?

<i>Note: I live in the GSM5AT service area, if that makes a
  difference.</i?

Auto update on my 1100 is a joke. Yesterday I had to reset because I
dropped my phone and the battery popped out. If I wait for it to
update by itself it never does so I set the time & date; then the the
phone asked "Update time & date?" I said OK, so it changed to 1:36pm
1/11/2036! (it was maybe 11:00am at the time.) I reset both manually,
needless to say - except that I just did say.

Also have 2 Moto W260s, one active and one is used as an alarm clock.
The active one was OK, the alarm clock one said it was 12/31/08. (I
believe it also said 12/31/08 yesterday. The brief time it was
activated was well after the leap day and had the right date.) I had to
remove & replace the battery since as has been mentioned before there's
no way to manually fix the clock/date.

Thanks for your answer to the GSM question. Why is the LG600 better?

See, here's the deal about being a newbie...you have no idea how to
navigate the site. I have tried to use the search feature, and still
had these questions. Is there a separate archives (and how do I get
there?) or are the "archives" simply old posts that I've already been
searching (unsuccessfully).

TIA.

...and I agree, it's a better phone with better features (plus I have
had two LG phones with Verizon and found them very reliable). I hadn't
realized it was Bluetooth enabled. That's the #1 feature I am looking for.

I make international calls occasionally (usually from landline) so
same rate calls is a nice feature. Do you know if this phone can be
used overseas to call the US? Would I need a new SIM card?

Please understand that I am technology-impaired when you reply. LOL.

Thanks!

Tracfone can only be use in the US. You can call out internationally BUT you
can not use it to call from another country to the US (And that even means right
across the border in Canada .... they will shut the phone off.

OK, having read your other posts I'll hit a few key points

1) W376g is GSM and bluetooth but many of the usual bluetooth features are
disabled such as downlooading pictures from the phone to the computer ..instead
you have to email them to yourself (and pay to do so. The LG 600 is as close to
a real full feature cell phone that Tracfone offers.

2) See above

3) DMFL means add a 60 minute card and it doubles it to 120 minutes. Any bonus
code will be above and beyond that. No special codes with DMFL, just for any
additional bonus codes

4) It would be during activation ... If your actually buying a 400 minute / 1
year card from tracfone just enter that bonus code and you should end up with
1120 minutes and 14 months of service. If your talking about any "gray area"
use of the code that scams the system ... I would never advise that on a phone
that your going to actually be using .... I fear that Tracfones fraud dept. will
get involved at some point and I would never risk a phone number that was
important to me.

5) To port it the new phone will have to be unactivated, if you activate it they
will have to send you a new sim card to complete the transfer. I suggest that
you call CS and ask them to talk you through the porting process

6) Bonus codes often work well past the official end date .... and free minutes
are free minutes .... I think they are worth it.

7) RAF has been gone for a very long time

8) A $19.99 most cards (60, 120, 200, 450) give 90 days of air time. You can
buy a one year card, or get on a plan that adds minutes as needed ... refer to
the tracfone site for more info.

Hope this helps,

Happy New Year,

Allan

I noticed at Kroger yesterday that their One Year cards only have 250

Their one year double minute card had 400 min.
didn't see a price. I'm guessing they're reducing the amount of minutes

OK OK! What does it take. I've never had such crappy customer service
in my life! I can never recommend anyone ever have any dealings with
this company! Stay away! I've been trying since Dec. 11 to get my
daughters phone activated, it's now Jan 1st and it still is not
activated! It was her birthday present, now she doesn't even want it
anymore. Way too much time on the phone with customer service, a new
sim card, and way too much time on the phone with customer service
going from person to person promising me "it'll be activated within
the next hour". What a crock of crap they are! All they've
accomplished is to deactivate her old phone, loose her units and
days. NICE JOB TRACFONE! THANKS FOR THE GREAT SERVICE! I'LL BE SURE
TO NOT RECOMMEND YOU TO ALL I KNOW!

I know I've seen this side by side comparison online, but can't
remember where. Can someone tell me the differences in these 2 models,
or please point me to a place that will let me know. I have a 3280, but
think I might be happier with the antenna-less 200c.

I have had good service by calling the home office at 1-800-876-5753.
This is in Miami and they have more control over the issues. Just be
sure to call during regular business hours or your call will be sent
to a lesser office.

Only a very few people have reported being able to access the Web with
a Tracfone, some with a W261 and more recently with a W370. Most
owners of those models, as well as newer models, have not been able to
go beyond Tracfone's portal. No one knows why a few have been successful.

A Direct Sales Rep told me last summer that full Web access was
definitely on the table, but would be available only with phone models
marketed after the Moto W376 and LG 600. Whether this is true or not,
only time will tell. Whatever, I don't want to invest too much in
current model phones, because I believe better ones are on the
horizon. I do like my W376, though. It's a sleek piece of equipment.

Tracfone has been making outbound survey calls to customers activating
new phones. I received such a call when I activated my W376 and the
rep seemed very interested in my feedback on this model, as well as my
thoughts on airtime rates and service periods. If anyone gets a
survey call, I would recommend participating. Of course, your phone
will have to be registered and you will need to include a home number
in "My Account" or you won't hear from them.

In this time of severe economic crisis, I don't doubt that many people
will be forced to give up their contract cellular service, modify
their usage and switch to prepaid. Prepaid service providers should
be keenly interested in what customers want and make an effort to
offer it if they hope to capture a larger share of the market.

Another option to make your voice heard is to use the web contact form
on Tracfone's site and select the "Feedback" category. If you want
web access on your phone, let the company know about it. If you want
120 days of service per airtime card, say so. If you want a $10
airtime card with at least 60 days of service to cover lean months,
speak up. If you like a particular phone model, but it lacks certain
features you want in a handset, tell Tracfone what you'd like to see
in upcoming product releases. Don't hesitate to use Virgin Mobile,
T-Mobile and Page Plus as points of comparison when presenting your views.

I've had pretty good service from them, but I was transferring only
time and units, not phone number. Yesterday I called them to transfer
time & units from two newly-activated w175g's to my current Nokia
1100. The whole process took 20 minutes and it went smoothly.

No, they actually increased the minutes for the same price. The 1-yr
card with 250 minutes must be several years old. That's what it used
to have, before they increased it to 400. (I think there was another
bump between 250 and 400).

Those 250-minute cards must be old inventory. They predated the
400-minute cards.

You can compare model specs at Phonescoop.com. Use the Jump box in
the upper right corner of the page and enter LG 200C. When the 200C's
page is displayed, go back to the Jump box and enter LG 3280. When
you get to the 3280's page, click on the Compare option and select
both the 200C and 3280 on the next page. You'll get a side-by-side
comparison.

The one year card used to be 250 minutes for $99.99 I believe. That then
changed to 400 minutes for $99.99

Many store have old hanging inventory. This sounds like the case in your
instance. When I activated one about a year ago I got 400 minutes, plus 400 for
DMFL plus 200 on a bonus code. So, regardless of whats on the card I'm betting
that it's just old stock (but I wouldn't take a chance ... I'd find one that
said 400 minutes.

Yes, Thanks. I tried that previously, but it doesn't actually tell
you what one does and the other doesn't/can't do. I believe the 3280
it the more recent LG tracfone, but I may be mistaken. Only reason
I'm looking into the 200c is it has no antenna knob and my 3280's
transmission seems to leave something to be desired, although I don't
see any problems with reception yet, at least not in my area.

As for your first question- you need to look at the service coverage. I too
am in a GSM5AT area- many of the stores only sell GSM phones (for either
AT&T or worst for my area T-Mobile) - but Verizon and the CDMA has the
better coverage. So just got a new CDMA phone last week for my father.

Look at these links for coverage- and do your own comparison on the
Tarcfone web site for your zip code:

For Tracfone:
http://www.tracfone.com/jsplib/verify_mapcov.jsp

Here is Net10:
http://www.net10.com/cellular_coverage.jsp?nextPage=cellular_coverage.jsp&task=c\
ellcov
and when I enter my zip:
http://www.net10.com/jsplib/verify_mapcov.jsp (Which I suspect is GSM under
AT&T but not 100% sure)
You can do the same for CDMA etc. if you know some zips with specific
service coverage.

I also saw a service map from a Net10 brochure (assume the maps should be
similar since they are on the same 3 primary networks) and GSM truly is
weaker than the Verizon CDMA coverage map shown too.

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/CoverageLocatorController?market=all
http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/
http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx

If you have good coverage on your existing Verizon phone then you may want
to stay with a CDMA phone. However none offer Bluetooth at this time from
Tracfone.

When I compared them, without having both phones - just online what I
noticed was:

LG200 is black outer case, no antenna and slightly thinner than the LG3280
which is silver case, has an antenna sticking up out of it and is slightly
heavier also- with a few more features from what I have read (you will have
to determine how important those features are to you).

http://www.compare-prepaid-cell-phones.com/Tracfone-CDMA-Phone-Deals.html
http://hubpages.com/hub/Tracfone-Lg200c--Check-out-the-New-CDMA-Tracfone

are 2 sites that have a few comments. Also you can look at the details on
the Tracfone web site for each phone.

It's amazing to me how different two separate interactions with CS
can be. Last week, before Christmas, I bought myself a new Moto
W376g to upgrade from my V-170. My plan was to just switch my
number/minutes/service days from my old Trac to my new Trac. I
started the activation process online and was given a ticket number
because my number had to be ported from one carrier to another. The
following day, I checked on the ticket and found that the number had
been ported successfully and I could proceed with the activation.
For whatever reason, I could not complete this process online. So
dreading a call to CS, I was surprised to find that my call went very
smoothly. I was connected to a rep within seconds, and 5 minutes
later my new phone was activated & ready to go with my old number &
minutes/service days carried over to it, plus 10 minutes and 60
service days for the new activation. I was pleased…end of story!

Then my wife liked my new W376g so much, she wanted one for herself
to upgrade from her C139. So, on Monday of this week I started the
activation process on her phone. I tried the website first, but it
was having problems so I had to call CS. No worries I was thinking
with the great CS I got with my last call. Mondays call went fine.
I was talking to a rep within seconds. Again, I was given a ticket
number because her number also had to be ported from one carrier to
another. I checked on the ticket on Tuesday to find the number had
been ported successfully and "I could complete the activation
process." Since I was already on Tracs site, I gave it a shot and it
worked fine. Wife's new W376g was activated and working with her old
number. BUT here's where the fun begins…The new phone was only given
60 service days and the initial 20 minutes for activating on the
web. No carry over minutes or service days from her old phone. The
old phone only had 72 units, but was active until 10/10/2009.

So call #2 to CS. (This is on Tuesday). I explained to the rep that
I had successfully activated the new phone but did not receive the
units/service days from the old phone. Well first the moron tried to
tell me that I needed a new Sim card for the old phone. Had I not
known any better, I would have probably said oh ok and waited for it
to arrive in the mail. After convincing him I did NOT need a new
Sim card because I had no plans to activate the old phone, he told me
I had to wait 4 to 24 hours to receive the carry over units/service
days. I remember reading something about that on the site, so I
thought well ok.

Well after 28 hours and still nothing…..Call #3 to CS. (this one on
Wednesday). Again, I was connected right away to a rep, however this
time I was on the line for almost half an hour, with most of that
time being put on hold while the rep "verifies some information." In
the end, the rep sent the 72 units to the new phone, but said she
could do nothing about the service days because the IT department
which had to verify the information was closed and I would have to
call back the following day when they were open.

So Thursday I made call #4 to CS. Again, connected right away to a
rep. This call lasted about 50 minutes with being put on hold while
the rep consulted with the "other department" more times than I can
count, and in the end, the new phone was given the service days from
the old phone, BUT the phone was only active until 10/10/09….the same
date as the old C139. After trying to explain to the rep that I
should also be given the 60 days of service time for the new
activation in addition to the service days that were on the old
phone. She said I could only be given the days up to 10/10/09 from
the old phone. Now I know this is wrong and I was getting hosed, but
she wouldn't budge.

So today Friday, I plan to make call #5 to CS to see if I can get
this resolved. Any suggestions that might make this a little
smoother for me would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks………..Mark in Michigan.

And oh yeah…….the morale of my story…..don't let your wife play with
your new toys! Nothing good can come from it.

however, do not necessarily put 100% faith in the Verizon coverage-area maps

Verizon shows solid coverage north of me --- but despite what the ads
claim, there are stretches of that road with no service on my CDMA
phone (Kyocera 126), two bars' worth of service on my AT&T phone
(Moto C139) where there supposedly isn't any service ! and one
intermittent bar (sometimes usable sometimes not) on my contract
Sprint phone

and there are some areas of that road when ALL the phones show
"looking for service"

An elderly relative who is not tech-savvy needs a cellphone to
make/receive a call once in a while or for emergencies -- nothing
else. It must be very simple to use, since they can handle "dialing"
and pushing a "call" or "answer" button, but that's about it. Would
prefer a clamshell phone to avoid accidental calls but its not
critical.

Is there a tracfone model that is VERY simple to make/receive call
with? Or can someone recommend a "kiddie" phone (push one button to
call mom or another to call dad) available with another prepaid service?
