The Schedules page at http://www.SinglesDances.netnow contains the 2003 Singles dance dates for the Susquehanna Valley vicinity (Berwick, Hazleton, Potters Mills, Williamsport).
The dates are also enclosed below in text form, but the above-mentioned web page should be more readable.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ADDITIONAL COMMENTS I obtained CCD (Centre County Dance) dates from Ron Klock via his Jan 10 email, OASIS dates from Jeff Lynn 1/8 by phone, SOAR dates from Tom Barrett 1/4 by phone, SOS dates from Nancy Machinski via the Nov newsletter. Notice we now have a "gap" between the 2nd Sunday and the 4th Friday, as the 3rd Saturday is now "empty". The New Experience group which previously used this date for their dances, has disbanded as of 12/31/02.
Note I have changed this Singles eGroup back to "announce-only", so once-again anybody can easily subscribe to this list.. ((Since changing it to "all members can post" back in September, only about 4 people other than myself had used the list to send announcements. Meanwhile about every 3 days a new Spammer attempted to join the list. This had forced me into the time-consuming & intrusive procedure of "interrogating" people via email before I approved their membership request, to try to keep the spammers out. Changing back to "announce-only" should eliminate these problems.))
Therefore, If you want to post a singles announcement, send it to the list, but make sure to send me a 'cc' or a 'bcc'. Then, if I see that you sent a message but it did not "post", I will post it myself. Then I will investigate why the listserver did not accept your announcement.
Note I also added information on the "Contacts" web page for the Pocono Singles Club, which has dances most Fridays.
THANKS to the
people who took the time to respond to this.
Summary Of The Survey:
It appears most "voters" wanted to keep the
Listserver "announce only", but there was some also some
interest in starting a separate new discussion
Listserver.
Action Planned: Start a new discussion
listserver, announce its availability, and then see if enough people
join it to keep it going.
((If anybody else is interested in operating this
discussion Listserver, please let me know. Some "fresh
blood" might be helpful. If I don't hear from anybody by
beginning of May, I will set it up myself.))
3-- J
Balogh Thoughts On Possible Separate NEW "Discussion"
Listserver
Given the possible interest in starting a separate NEW "Discussion"
Listserver (Choice 4), it might be worthwhile to try setting
one up as an experiment.
I think John Balogh summarized the idea as well as it can
be said, and I will just quote him as follows:
<JamesIngram@...>
Jim,
I support "Choice 4"
because it gives the desired result with more
flexability. Ie: if you get too much
email, you don't need to subscribe to
the new list. However, since I
filter my email into folders, I don't need to
manually sort out an "all in
one" feed into seperate folders, thus saving
me
time as well.
If the new list gets little or no
traffic, it will dry up and blow away. I'd
hate to see that happen to the
railnet list though.
Thanks for your time, and I'm open
to discussion on this issue.
* Choice 1
-- No change - continue as "Announce Only"
--
with only
designated publicity people given permission to make
announcements
for their own
a.
About Loose Ties
Loose Ties (a name chosen by the members) is
an informal group of toy train enthusiasts who share a common
interest, a love of toy trains. Formed in 1996 by A. Robert Walker,
aka "Grandpa Cho Cho", with a core group of less than a dozen, today
active membership has swelled to twenty five. The ages and
backgrounds of the members are as eclectic as the trains they collect
and operate. What all members, whether eighteen or eighty, have in
common, is their love, appreciation, and enjoyment of toy
trains.
On a monthly basis, Loose Ties
gather at a member's home or at a site of special interest.
Activities range from running each other's trains on home
layouts, staging shows, viewing very special train
collections, or touring manufacturing facilities in the
area.
Despite the relatively small size of the
group, each month's meetings are interesting, exciting and generally
well attended. Some members have extensive train collections,
consisting of toy trains representative of all eras of the train
maker's art, while others concentrate less on collecting and more on
operating. Some members have few if any trains, but yet have a
passion for them, and are in the early stages of developing their
hobby. What all have in common, is that they are "hooked" on
trains.
Modular Layout
The group built a modular railroad for public
display in 1999, and updated it in 2000. You can see photos on the
photo pages.
Dues & Donations
Loose Ties is a self sustaining organization.
Annual dues, which primarily cover mailing and printing costs, are
$15.00. There is never a charge for admission to shows or displays,
although donations are much appreciated. All contributions are used
for maintenance and expansion of club activities.
