Several misconceptions:
1. That "300 meters up" is nothing but a wild guess. The human visual
system cannot produce that information unless the object is at a
distance of ten meters or closer.
We might get this information later, but ONLY if the multiple
witnesses can somehow be synchronized in TIME as well as direction.
Witnesses reporting a direction the objects were seen in don't give us
much information unless we know those directions are synchronized in
time. One observation might be several minutes ahead of the other, and
throw off the triangulation.
2. Because the distance is not known, the speed is not known either.
3. A hoax may have been ruled out, but not a prank.
4. Since the speeds and altitudes are only wild guesses, fire balloons
have NOT been ruled out. The colors reported are consistent with fire
balloons, as are the slow speeds and relative motions.
5. Note that the press wants the mystery, not a quick identification,
so they can sell more papers and gain more viewers.
