Winter Meeting!

Greetings UPAC members, friends, and colleagues:

I am very excited to announce the dates and times of our upcoming
winter meeting (conference) and request submissions for papers,
posters, and symposiums.

We are going to do something new this year! Utah has some of the most
fascinating and significant archaeology in the U.S. Therefore, I
would like to begin a movement toward a more formal and enlightening
?conference.? Instead of a business meeting accompanied by a few
papers, we are going to have TWO FULL DAYS of papers, posters,
symposiums, forums, and round table discussions!!

The UPAC meeting/conference is scheduled for Friday, January 25th and
Saturday, January 26th at Rio Grande Building, located at 300 South
Rio Grande Street, in beautiful downtown Salt Lake City.

The meetings will commence on Friday morning at 8am in the Zephyr Room
with refreshments and selected papers, followed by a group discussion.
The business meeting will follow at 1pm, and the Executive Committee
will be proposing some significant bylaw changes. There will be an
evening social held at a location (downtown or accessible by TRAX) to
be announced.

Papers and discussion forums will begin on Saturday morning at 9am and
I expect that there will be at least two separate symposiums, to be
held in the Zephyr Room and West Meeting Room. A symposium/round
table discussion will be scheduled for Saturday afternoon in the
Zephyr Room and we will adjourn at 5pm.

I have already received several thought provoking papers, regarding
historic and prehistoric findings from archaeological sites located
throughout Utah. Papers addressing archaeological finding outside but
relevant to Utah are also encouraged. There will be a symposium and
discussion on creative methods that are being used to expedite
cultural resource clearance for wildfire stabilization and a
preliminary report of findings. I also expect a forum on cultural
resource management issues in Utah as well as a symposium geared
toward sharing some of the innovative methods currently being employed.

I look forward to seeing all of you as well as some new faces!! If
you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at
801-537-9046 or lori.hunsaker@....

Best,
Lori
